To My Truck

As a general rule of thumb, I don't go out of my way looking for street races-I have a clean license and kinda would like it to stay that way for insurance purposes. However today I locked horns with a Ford and came out victorious!

A little background first-I am employed as a contract oilfield operator here in east-central Alberta. My truck is about 15 times higher in class than the average company truck (generally a 1500 or 2500 GM with a 5. 3)-therefore I usually get quite a few comments about it at the jobsite. The electrical contractor we used to use before our company buyout has always been a Ford guy-one afraid of diesels to boot-and always figured his V10s were the hot ticket. I've crossed paths with him multiple times at the pumps or at various oilfield functions over the last 6 months-everytime he brags about his chipped-up V10 and tells me he'll catch me on the road one day and we'll see who is the boss. I've always told him as politely as I could that there isn't a chip built that will let him run with me :) but apparently it never sunk in...

So today I'm getting ready to leave the Drumheller valley-ducked in after work for groceries, fuel etc... who shows up on my back bumper at the last set of lights but Mr. V10 himself. I figured he'd want to play-to be honest I wasn't really up for it-long day, etc. etc. etc. But he rode my bumper over the last bridge out of town-when the road 2-laned again he pulled along the right side and motioned that he wanted to run. The road out of the valley is an 8% grade (or very close to that- +/- 1%) for a mile or so-and it winds out pretty tight. He followed me out of town to the place the road widens to 2 lanes which is about where the actual climb starts. I'm into race mode now-DragCOMP up to 5x5 and running in 5th gear to keep the revs up. About the time we hit the 2 lanes we're running up on traffic in the slow lane-I drop into 6th and rod on it as he's about to push me anyways  . I know I'm gonna have to work a little as my truck is tooled to the max (I carry close to 1500 lbs. worth of stuff) and carrying a ton of mud where his is cleaned off and basically just electrical diagnostic stuff. So I hammer it coming up to the hard right hander-and dust him badly before I have to lift to get around-the Silver Cloud is no sports car with its 315/75R16s. Make it around in my lane but not by much-and buddy is coming again for another run-down to the hammer again. The left-hander that comes up isn't quite as hard but I lift a little anyways... . once around I'm on it for all I can get again. 40 lbs of boost-fuel pressure is around 5 psi-we won't talk about the pyro ;) and Mr. V10 is fading badly now as I break over the top. Once I got over the crest I backed out to let things cool down-he pulled back beside me, gave me a shrug to say that he did all he could, and hammered off down the highway... ...

And the best part? I was pulling my sled trailer with my MXZ-REV on top-he was empty... ... ... :p :) :D ;)

I love my truck... ...

Jason!

Good one JH. We had a stock V10 one ton company truck, and that thing was a DOG. 460s run a lot stronger than the V-10s.

Have a friend who just picked up his new Duramax, been bugging me about racing. We went in my truck to run an errand and I let him drive. He said after that he changed his mind. He also told later, to some friends that are Powerstrokers to not mess with my truck. Scored some victories without even getting in the truck!!
