Hi again:confused:

I need a VERY basic explination... .

I have;

DiPricol Mechanical Fuel Pressure Gauge 0-30psi 1/8"NPT

Fuel Pressure Isolator Diaphram Type w/Mounting Hardware

Fuel Pressure Line 18", Genos Catalog #43, pg5

Banjo Fitting & 2 Gaskets

I need:

Step-by-step "cookbook" installation instructions.

My original idea;

Use the new Banjo bolt at the exit side of the fuel filter-to-VP44

18" Fuel Pressure Line to the Isolator

Tubing supplied with the FP gauge through the firewall and to the gauge.

What I don't know:

It looks like the schrader valve on the VP44 is where the 18" fuel line connects into - not requiring the new Banjo Bolt.

Ok... . so, bleed that line once it's connected to the VP44 - ending up with it full of diesel connected to the Isolator. Yes/No?

On the other side of the Isolator, the white plastic tubing connects and goes to the FP Gauge... . I presume... .

What goes in the tubing?

Fuel

Mineral Oil

Anti-freeze

Karo Syrup:confused:

I really hate to seem so mechanically challenged here..... I actually am pretty good with a wrench..... but this is just one of those projects I need simplicity to solve :(

Thanks.

From isolator to the guage is glycol, antifreeze. There should be a screw on the isolator to bleed the fuel line coming to it.

Ahhh... . that's what the big 'ol straight slot screw is for - ok!

Glycol or anti-freeze to the gauge - got it..... any trick to filling that up?

What about the schrader valve? Would using that mean I don't need the Banjo (assumption here on my part)?

Ya know - when I took my box-o-parts that I ordered down to the auto parts store (Piston Service), they couldn't figure out what the end of that hose would go to - and now I know it's to the schrader valve..... thanks a lot for the help there!

Looks like I might have me a Banjo bolt and a couple gaskets in the spare parts bin ... might have to go to the pay-it-forward list... . kind of a pay-back for all the help I get from this site!

Thanks again... .

I have a very similar setup to yours. The shrader valve you are talking about will give you fuel pressure prior to the fuel filter... you really want to monitor it on the other side of the filter to make sure what pressure is getting to the VP44.

I installed the banjo bolt you mentioned into the bottom of the fuel filter where the line comes out and runs to the VP44. There is a bolt there that you remove and replace with the banjo. I then screwed a 24' grease gun hose into the banjo and ran that to the isolator. It is a fairly sharp bend for the hose, so I got an L shaped adaptor and screwed that into teh banjo and the the grease gun hose into the other end... . I was much happier with this setup.

Hi Social-rattler,

I have a schrader valve on the VP44 - it's on the incoming fuel line from the filter..... does your's have this same valve?

Are you thinking of a schrader valve before the fuel filter? I haven't seen one on my truck - but to be honest - I haven't looked for one either.

What tips do ya have for getting the gauge pressure side of the isolator filled with glycoll/anti-freeze :)

I have the same shrader valve... if you are looking at it from the side of the truck, it sticks out horizontal from the side of the fuel filter. It is my understanding that this valve is gonna give you pressure going to the filter from the lift pump. You really want to monitor from the line that comes out of the bottom of the filter that runs to the VP44. Reach down underneath the filter housing and you will feel it.

To fill the isolator, there should be a plug on it that you take out, depress the diaphram with a pencil eraser (take it easy! you don't want to puncture it) fill it as full as you can. Attach the tubing that will go to the gauge. Create a syphon from the end of the tube that will attach to the gauge (iow, suck on the tube till antifreeze comes all the way thru... then spit it out  ). you should now be able to attach tube to back of the gauge.

I'm attaching a photo of the schrader on my VP44 - this is where I'm attaching the FP-Isolator line... . I do see where there is a schrader on the back of the Filter Inlet (I have a photo of that too - but I'm not certain these photo's will be small enough to fit here)...

I also made a bracket and have some washers and nuts to mount the Isolator hanging down from the brake master cylinder... if I can get the photo's to upload, I'll post 'em!

Thanks for the idea about the eraser and siphoning!!!!

Dave

Dang - the photo is too big!

Yep, the schrader in your picture of the fule filter is the one I was talking about. If you follow the line that is attached to that valve, you will see if comes from the lift pump.

You can certainly attach your line to the valve on the VP44... . I just chose not to do that so the dealer techs could still use it if needed.

I just went back and re-read you original post... i see that is what you said at the beginning... I must have been distracted when I started off on the one on the fuel filter. Sorry for any confusion.

No problem on the confusion - keeps me on my toes!

I've got the bracket painted and ready to install - the line is run through the firewall - and the isolator has the fittings attached and teflon taped - getting ready to finish this up I hope!

I'll post more photo's at the previous link as I go...

I don't have a permanent place ready (A-Pillar) yet - so I'm going to temp attach the FP gauge at the bottom of the dash by the ash tray...

Dave

Ok... . the gauge is IN and working without any leaks :)

I've put the photo's on the link a few messages up from this one!

Oh... happy day... . time to load up the 4x4 on the trailer and get ready to go (tow) play this weekend...

Good job! Couldn't tell from photos, but I put 1/8" split loom around all hoses, etc, in engine compartment and inside cab. (except for grease gun hose).

Thanks Social_Rattler :)

I put split loom around "nearly" everything..... but since I'm going to relocate the FP gauge when the "A" Pillar mount and EGT/Boost gauges go in... thought I could wait a bit...

Thanks again for all the input!

Need a Banjo fitting? Pay-it-forward?

Dave

Hi Phil,

Ya know - I didn't get any instructions with my gauge/isolator assembly! I relied on this list for a fair ammount of the info, and so, mine is mounted vertically.

Wonder if I shouldn't remount horizontally?

Do you have a link to the instructions?

Dave
