CAUTION: Nobody has brought up that the single 1 ton doesn't have roof marker lights from the factory, whoever upgrades to the dully would need to get these installed or face a ticket .

True, but those lights were installed at the factory on the DRW. But we are taliking going from a DRW 3500 to a SRW 3500. And you can get a SRW 3500 from the factory with the cab lights as an option. So no biggie, just another good thing.

I feel your after thoughts. I thought the same thing for the first couple of weeks after I bought my 04'5 DRW. I felt fery uncomfortable drivint it even though I have driven 1ton/drw trucks alot. After a while I felt very comfortable driving it around. Now, I do not live in a city so this might be a different insight on this.

I will say this about the MC DRW's. I think it would be easier to wheel around town than my QC DRW. From my point of view from owning a 4x4 QC DRW, the 4x4 MC DRW just looks smaller.

Maybe it is those funky(according too some) rear DRW fenders. :-laf

The point about the Marker lights on the cab roof is this. Suposedly in 2006 on the SRW they don't come installed from the factory, its an option. I would assume most guys that want the marker lights on top might also really want the dully, so I would think its a low orderd option..... So if they were going to do a swap, with someone that has a SRW 1 ton, there is a high chance that the fellow upgrading from a single to dully wouldn't have the marker lights, so the gentelman getting a upgrade may find himself latter down the road with a ticket, that is my point of caution.

I live in the San francisco, CA area and have driven duals for a couple of years. I started in Nov 04 with a Ford F-350 crew cab long bed. The roads here in northern CA as well as in the city of San Francisco are amongst some of the most challenging around in regards to navigation in traffic on narrow windy streets with a fairly large truck, and parking. I have grown accustomed to them. I lemoned that truck last month and picked up a black megacab 06 dually repacement that I had ordered. When towing large heavy loads or just heavy loads there really is no comparison between the single and the dual rear wheel trucks. The dual rear wheel trucks are simply far superior when it comes to towing safely. I also own and drive an 02 E-350 with a 7. 3l DIT. Towing the same trailers and loads, on the same roads with the

E-350 was such a hair raising experience that I went to the duals. I am glad that I did! The experience of towing those loads went from hair raising, to a pleasant experience. For a safe experience when towing there really is no alternative to dual rear wheels. I beleive that the duals fill out the rear of the megacab asthetically as well. In the megacab single rear wheel models the cab looks out of proportion with the short bed in my opinion. I agree that the fender flares on the duals are not the most attractive, but in black they really don't look bad. If I were you, I would stick with the duals for towing that trailer of yours. I went through some of the same emotions that you are going through after ordering my megacab, but now that I have it I am glad that I stuck with the duals. Good luck!

My only addition to this thread is.

I have had more issues going from the QC to the MC length than the dually width. The longer wheel base just doesn't turn as tight as the QC. It took me about 1500 miles to really feel comfortable parking and driving the truck in heavy traffic. I now feel odd driving my wifes SRW. Nothing in the mirror any more?????

I have also noticed that the cars around me seem to give me just a little more room with the MC Dually than they did with the QC short bed?

Brethren!!!

Apparently the force wasn't with me yesterday as I pulled the trigger on the dually!!! Guess I will have to get me a "loading zone" sticker so I can park this big-hipped truck outside of the parking garages in downtown. :-laf Guys it was sad case yesterday... ... ..... as soon as I pulled into the dealership I saw the truck and got weak at the knees. Thanks again for your time and information... ... ... . it was very helpful.

As for the Cab clearance lights... It is not a state thing, it is a FEDERAL thing. . Once the truck breaks the 10,000 lb GVWR as in 10,001 or more, it then meets Federal Motor Carrier specs and must be lighted in accordance to FMVSS... .

It's not a weight issue that requires clearance lights... it's width. Over 80 inches, you must have both front and rear clearance lights (note Hummers have them as well as duallies).
