Mega Cab Opinions

I recently had an 04 QC CTD stolen from the parking lot of a motel in Tulsa. It looks like, as I suspected, it will not be recovered. An 05 CTD was stolen from a Residence Inn about 5 blocks away the same night. That guy was an insurance adjuster there working the ice storm damage. Both vehicles were locked and there was no broken glass at the scene.

I also drive a Sport Trac and am thinking about looking for a Mega Cab to replace the above QC. I like the extra room in the back seat of the Mega Cab but have never been inside one.

Any pitfalls or things to be aware of in the Megacabs? What year were they first made? Can you still tow with the 6. 4 bed or whatever is in the Mega? Also does it ride pretty smooth or does one feel like he's piloting a river barge?

The Mega is the same wheelbase as a Quad with an 8' bed. It does turn somewhat like a greyhound bus, but you get used to it quickly, and I don't think it's as bad as something like a duallie. I believe the towing limits should be the same as a Quad, with everything else being the same (as far as how the truck is equipped). The ride is good, and the extra room in the cab is great. I love mine.

I have an '06 Mega Cab CTD G56 4x4 SLT. The cab layout is nice. Rear seating area is very roomy. IMO the seats are the worst for comfort in any truck I have owned. They also stain very easily.

If you carry people in the back, it is unbeatable. But it is a bear to park. I went from a QC/2x4 to a Mega/4x4. Truck feels much bigger. The kids (3) used to hate going in my truck and always ask to go in my wife's Suburban. Now they love the Mega, especially with lil' TV screens in the head-rests.

I have a dually 4X4 MC and love it! I went from a Qc to the MC and for the family its the best move I have ever made.

I went from a Ford CC to a Dodge MC and can say it rides better, is a little longer, but the cab room is awesome and the turn radius is 10 times better than my old Ford.

I've had both as well. I simply do not need the extra interior space and REALLY prefer the long bed. I towed a big gooseneck with my mega, no different than any other third gen. IMO, they should have done a standard crew cab, the amount of space back there is just plain overkill. Yes the lwb trucks are freaking long and tough to park some places but no worse than any big truck. I like the underseat storage and flip down cargo floor of the QC. I did not like how the mega back seat folds flat, when folded it is a long ways up. It is a pretty good lift to get groceries or the dog in there, and no underseat storage compartments, you can stuff things under there, unless you want to fold the seat, which again, is a poor design IMO.

I absolutely LOVE my Mega Cab. It is a great ride, plenty of room inside, tows like a dream. I like the flat folding rear seat - yes, it is a little high, but you can get a ton of stuff in there, and protect it from the weather on rainy days. It also serves as a good bed for long trips, I made a mattess for back there and have used it many times for taking rest breaks. When I have the grandkids in the back, no more feet into the back of the seat, lots of room for them, their junk, and my dogs. All in all I give it a high rating, I am very pleased with my truck. I would certainly buy another one in an instant if mine were stolen and needed replaced.



I scotchguarded the seats, did the seat mod to add a little padding, worked fine for me. Can't tell you anything about the back seat comfort, but then I don't ride back there, so I really don't care about that.

I have had three quad cab short beds. I could never go back after I bought a mega cab. I use it to pull my jet boat mostly and it is nice to put all the easily stealable stuff in the back seat like boat covers skis ect without have a camper shell. You can also fit a small camp size air matress in the back for long road trips. I have never loved a truck as much as my 06 mega.

Mega cab all the way. I had an 04 drw 3500 quad cab and it was just a little to small. Mega cab has plenty of room, plenty of storage. I do not have a cap on my mega but with 4 guys in the truck and it started to rain it was nice to put the gear behind the rear seats and still have room. The power rear slider is real nice to have also.

got an '06, love it will never go back. but get the leather, the cloth fabric sucks...

Love the room. Upgraded to my 06' Mega from a 96' CC. Very handy on long trips. Lots of room for gear, dogs, whatever.
