mega cab -pullrite 16k or 24k

Most people think that a pullrite 16k would be allright with a mega-cab. Others have said pullrite 24k. because the slide on the 24k is 18 inches 4 more inches than the 16k. Anyone using a 16k or 24k ?Any opinions or suggesttions woul be greatly appreciated.

Well you might need that extra 4" since the bed of the MC is 3" shorter than a regular short bed right now... . You can get away with the 16K but you might not be able to do a full 90 deg. without hitting... .

Call Pull Rite and talk to Linda, she will be able to tell you for sure wether or not you will need the extra travel for the Mega. They make a hitch for the F150 Supercrew which has the shortest box of all, and it will not hit the cab. I'm sure they are aware of the limitations of the Mega's bed and can/will give you the best advice. Great company, great products, and the BEST customer service in the busness.

I believe the MC bed is the same bed as the short bed (6'-3"). It would've cost Dodge some $$$ to retool for a third bed.

The 3rd gen short beds are 3" shorter than the 2nd gens, but I'm pretty sure the MC short bed is the same as the QC short bed. I think the distance from axle to cab on the 3rd gen short bed is around 36". Assuming that the hitch is over the axle, 14" travel should provide 50" from pin to cab at full travel. The math isn't all that complicated.

I had a Superglide on a 2G truck and the hitch WAS centered over the rear axle.

I have a pullrite 16k in my Megacab and I like it. You have to be careful as to what pin box your trailer has though. Some trailers (particularly fifthwheels made by forest river) I tow look like they will hit the tail gate if the slider slid all the way back. You want the pin Box to be as straight up as possible. The trailers that have a pin box that slants back towards the trailer are the ones you have to be careful with. I like the Alpha trailer pin box it is small and out of the way. On most turns the slider won't slide you have to be making a hell of a sharp turn to get it to slide. The only reason I did not go with the 24k was cost.
