How is the Mega Cab concept working out where you live??

They've been out a while and I just saw my first one last week, and I've seen VERY few on dealers lots. That seems strange to me.

I absolutely love mine. I have about 15k miles on it and my wife drives it 85% of the time and she loves it too. I have the 3500 srw 4x4 and we get about 15mpg in town and 17 on the road. I have the headrest mounted DVD for the kids and they travel very comfortably. We are constantly hauling 4 kids and two adults and feel very safe . The brakes are excellent and the giddyup is pretty good as well. I highly recommend it!

LOVE IT! Mine has 16,000 miles on it with no problems. I love the extra room. Me, my wife, daughter, and four German Shepherd dogs make frequent trips to another state to visit relatives (every month or so). The extra cab room sure comes in handy. Lots of room for kids, luggage, etc. As soon as I heard DC was going to make the Mega Cab, I started making my plans to get one. It was a perfect fit for our family. The only trouble I had was finding accessories for it when I first got it.

Bought mine early Oct 05'. It was a few months before seeing another on the road. Now I see at least two a week on the road. Don't really pay attention to dealership's. When I do pass a dealer I see one or two without really looking.

The Mega's do look good lifted.

There's quite a few around here, however they all seem to be town trucks.

Dealer lot has a couple megacabs, but mostly q/c with 8' beds.

I have about 7800 miles on mine. 2000 of that towing 9500lb TT. I really like it. . Beside the extra cab room, the auto transmission on the 06 is a lot smarter than the one on my 04 was... Also I have the exhaust brake which is worth every penny...

I see another one on the road every once in a while, but not often...

Have seen a few around here. What I have noticed is alot of crunched cab corners. Guess they don't realize that towing a gooseneck or 5er you can't turn real sharp without a special hitch.

I'm very happy with mine. The only real problem is that the a/c is weak. I had a sunroof problem (drain tube was crushed from the factory) but that was fixed under warranty.

There were several on the lots when I bought during the employee discount promotion. This was at the end of the 2006 model year.

I noticed there were very few Megacab Laramie diesel equipped trucks when I bought mine. I searched the dealer websites looking for what I wanted. My salesmen told me that when they first came out the Megacab sold well but sales suffered when the gas prices went up so dealers ordered less of them and more quad cabs. He said they are seeing a resurgence of customers wanting the Megacab again.

I've got about 6K on mine. Around town I get 15 to 16mpg and just did a long trip and got 18. 6 mpg which I hope will go up once completely broken in and using synthetic motor oil.

I moved up from an 02 Ford Crewcab. The crewcab was nice but it is hard to argue with even more room. You will need nerf bars or steps to help get in the cab especially for the kids. One of the things I like the most is the smaller turning radius vs that crewcab... that thing would take a block to turn around. I can now make U turns without having to have a to make a plan.

So far it has been a great truck, I thought my Ford drove great but this truck drives and rides better than many cars I have driven. Very quiet and very little or no road noise. This may upset some, but I didn't realize how much I would like the quietness of the common rail injection.

I only have a few dislikes. I haven't figured out how to remove the rear seat headrests which is a pain when backing to hook up the boat and the tow mirrors.

The tow mirror issue is probably a matter of personal preference since I'm used to the other mirrors that were on my Ford. I just can't seem to see with them as well for some reason.

All in all I'm very happy with the truck and I love the Cummins diesel way more than the 7. 3l Powerstroke. It tows my boat MUCH more easily and is a real pleasure to drive. In fact I sometimes look for reasons to take it for a little drive just to hear that Cummins rumblin'. If the whole package gives me as good of service as my Ford did I'll very happy.

Love the truck as far as room, ride, and dependability. Hate the mileage though. I understand I only have 5,000 and it should improve over time but 11-12 city and 16-18 highway is way lower than other Megacab owners post on here and other sites. I wonder if there's something wrong with my truck or if most people exaggerate theirs. Judging by owners I've talked to and reading different Dodge sites the average seems to be 14-16 city and 17-20 highway. And yes I drive like a grandma and my tires are up to 80 p. s. i.

I agree with the rest of the MegaCab owners, great truck and good fuel mileage. I average about 19MPG for 50/50 city highway mileage and keeping it under 70MPH really helps with the mileage. Great power, moves my Jeep and Quads around like they are not even attached. My little girl cannot kick my seat while she is strapped in her rear car. My dog has plenty of room. Overall it is a great package, rides like a car, excellent power and mileage. I would buy another in a heartbeat if it was totalled or god forbid stolen. Scotty

Although your around town mileage seems a little low, 16-18 highway is about right and you'll probably do a little better than that with more miles. I wouldn't be disappointed getting that mileage in a 7500 lb truck. My '03 QC LB got a best of 19. 5 over a whole tank hand calculated and I was very happy.

Love my megacab i actually sleep in the back, seats folded down i put a 4in twin foam pad in the back 91000 miles one cracked manifold, and one vacuum pump later. 17/18mpg in town 12/14mpg towing 19/20mpg empty

How many miles on your truck i will bet not many my mileage was low like yours so more miles =better mileage KAXS injector upgrade was good for about 1. 5mpg and more power

Had mine since Feb 06, 26k miles and its been wonderful. :D Would have to agree that the AC is weak. The AC was significantly better in the 03 Ram 3500 SRW CTD I had. Engine is strong, performance is short of phenomenal. Here in Brenham, Texas we have a great dealership. Very very good techs, body work group, sales and management. Best of all worlds.

There are quite a few of SRW Megacabs down here almost the majority of the new 06's are Megacabs. Don't see many DRW though maybe they are all waiting for the long bed.

Absolutely love mine glad I got it before all the pollution addons.

My family love the new megacab. There is plenty of room for the kids and dogs and as someone else said, no more having the back of my seat kicked is a great experience. I have only 5500 miles on it but it pulls my 32 foot jayco travel trailer great. I still can not believe the power this engine produces and how quiet it is.

I just rolled over 7000 the other day. We've had it since late June. There were several on the lot when we got it, but I don't know about now. I've seen several around the Reno area, but near as many as the QCabs. Overall, I love this truck. The mileage is low compared to my 97, but I'm crossing my fingers for the more miles equals more mileage theory. :D The truck is quiet, powerful, and the transmission is up to the task so far. I also got the exhaust brake and it is, as mentioned above, worth every penny. I was concerned about the short box, but it hasn't been an issue so far. We pulled our tt about 2000 miles right out of the box over some steep territory, after the breakin of course. The only big concern I have is the A/C is not adequate for a cab this size. The heat works very well. I think it is more of a volume of air thing rather than a coldness of air thing. The only other "complaint" I have is the stereo (6 disk, Sirius) is kind of lame. The bass/mid/treble adjustment doesn't give enough adjustment. Speech, like a DJ or talk show, can be kind of muddled because I can't get enough low tones out. I plan on sleeping in it later this month during a hunting trip. I'll let you know how that works out! :-laf

Mega Cab

Bought mine in May 06 and have 15000 on it now. Like many Mega owners I love it, think the A/C is weak but still love it. :)

I have had a 96 reg cab 98. 5 qcab and a 03 Qcab. This 06 is the best one yet. the only thing I wish it had was a back up camera through the nav system. I wanted a 8' bed like the last 3,but I will take the room in the mega cab and I still fit my quad in the back with the tail gate closed.
