Mega-Cab SWB w/ 4 1/2 foot bed?

Am I the only one in TDR land that thinks the Mega-cab on a SWB platform would be a good rig? To me it seems like it would be the best suburban/pickup compromise. If my math is right, putting a megacab on a SWB would leave about a 4 1/2 foot of bed. Kind of like the Dakota quad cabs. I don't really need bed length, and would take the extra cab space as a trade-off, especially if it would fit in my garage like a SWB rig would. It would seat a lot of people comfortably and with a shell would be just right for my purposes. I've been considering an excursion, but its a little too big, ugly, and ford for my purposes. A diesel Yukon would be great, but it would have to be home-made.



However a SWB Mega-cab... just right.

The Mega Cab with the 6'3" bed is considered SWB... no way Dodge would put that thing on the 140. 5" wheelbase.

Everybody's got different needs and wants. There are a lot of folks that appreciate the CTD and need room for a lot of passengers but just don't need the cargo room a 8' box provides. Not to mention a lot of people live in areas that trying to navigate a Mega-Cab 8' box land-yacht would be nearly impossible. Personally, I don't need the extra passenger room of the mega-cab but do like having the 8' box so my next truck will be a "regular" Quad Cab on LWB configuration.

Useless for towing a 5th wheel. I believe its sales will be very limited.

I navigate both downtown LA, every day during the week, and downtown san diego on the weekends, with a quad cab long bed 4x4 with no problems parallel parking anywhere I need to. Anyone that has issues navigating a long truck, just needs to learn how to drive, and remember to always swing wide. one more tip, its always easier to back into a parking spot when you get somewhere, than it is to back out of one when you are leaving

No matter how good a driver I am, I can't fit 21' of truck into a 20' garage... :-laf

build a longer garage, or buy a little car for commuting, and keep the truck for fun. Its a truck, not a 90k dollar sports car that needs a heated garage.

It's also a truck I deliver equipment with. I have to deal with OTHER PEOPLE'S driveways etc. I think that is alot of people reason for having short boxes. Not their inability to drive. Like the man said you can't fit a 21' truck into a 20 ft garage.

I would love to be able to afford both. A non-existant quad-cab 4. 5 ft bed SRW truck and a Mega-cab long bed DRW 4x4. This would be ideal. As of now I love my QC SRW SB 4x4. I left the comfort of an F-250 4x4 long bed. I love the size of the Dodge. I like a long bed but they aren't always practical.

I've been watching this topic since word came down the pipe that there would be no long bed/dually Mega Cab. It's funny how people have reacted to this. People with SBs say it will be great. People with LBs say over and over how the only truck people should be buying are LBs. It's almost as if they take it as though anyone choosing a SB is telling them they're wrong just by buying the SB. I owned an 01. 5 LB ExtraCab w/Northland camper-great truck but wanted a bigger cab. When the 03s came out, bought a QC SB and had inbetween there switch to a trailer w/ramp for camping-48K miles and I love it. If I were to buy a Mega Cab, maybe I would want a LB or maybe SB? I guess the thing that I can't understand about all this is why Dodge seems to continue denying us CHOICES? Ford and Chevy do. Some will say "then buy those and have more problems". Why is it to get a great engine and mostly better truck we have so settle for any configuration that were not totally satisfied with. No, I'm not asking for frame length choices from 10' to 30' in 8 inch increments, just a more level playing field of choices for my $35-45K.

The reason Dodge doesn't offer as many choices is it was barely 12 years ago they were only selling 70,000 trucks a year compared to 500,000 for the other two. Although they have made great strides in production to make what they do now, don't have the extra capacity for trucks right now. Not to mention, we STILL don't sell near as many trucks as Ford and Chevy, so they aren't able to commit to making 10,000 configurations of trucks. It makes the most common and financial sense to build exactly what they are going to make. Hopefully in time they can expand upon it.

Meanwhile, the campgrounds continue to fill up with the Crew Cab duallies from Ford and Chevy/GMC pulling the big 5th wheels!
