What makes you think all that extra space is going to be in front of the rear seat ;) might be nice to have room to keep a few things inside the cab besides passengers  ... my brothers second cousins nephew knows this guy and he said... ;)

Aren't you looking for more than just a pickup? Huge crew cab, 6. 7 Cummins, 9-speed automatic with 25,000# GCVW -- sounds like a medium duty comercial truck to me.
Checked the GCWR and tow ratings of the new SooperDoodies?

Rusty

Agreed

The new Super Duties GCVW:

F250/350 SRW 23000

F250/350 DRW 23500

F450 30000

F550 33000

And they ALL have 4 full size doors and a 8 foot bed.

'Course they are also over 23 feet long !!

If DC is going big time, they better take a close look at the F450.

IMHO thats where the market is heading. I wouldn't have a Ford as a gift, but you can't knock where they are heading with the SD's

I will be buying in 2006. I REALLY want DC to make a decent 4 door cab with a 6 speed auto that handles that big honkin' 6. 7 Cummins they put in it. I don't care is the bed is 6', I have a slider that works just fine. Please Mr. DC, don't make me buy a Ford or even worse, a Chevy. .

Once it doesn't fit in my garage, length doesn't matter. My current 2nd generation quad cab clears by 1. 5", so anything I buy will require another covered bay at the RV storage lot.

Yep, my 5th wheel has a 16,000 lb GVWR. Some of the Newmars, Tetons, Alfas, etc. are approaching 20,000 lb GVWRs. Maybe DCs market strategy is to push us into Freightliner FL-60s or FL-70s, but if Ford offers a serious alternative for much less money, then which way do you think the market will go? I'm interested in any alternative to that $100,000 Peterbilt 330 crew cab with a custom B&W towing bed!

The GCWR are a joke, they dont need to change a thing on the trucks to increase GCWR, its all paperwork, they dont need to increase braking its taken care of by the trailer, I doubt they increased the pin weight capability more than a few hundred pounds and on a srw thats usually limited by the tires. I'll bet the main reason the lawyers let them increase GCWR is the built in brake controler. 23,000 on a srw is safe now? but 20,000 on a drw was to much a few years ago?, its all about how much liability the manufacturers are willing to deal with, the current trucks are fine well over 25,000 without changes.

Jared,

You might want to read the most recent edition of the TDR magazine. The SooperDoodies we're discussing are an all-new, from the ground up design. The frames, suspension, etc. are all different. Therefore, changes in ratings can certainly be justified.

Hey Jeff

Jeff:

Howdy. Didn't you win bigger injectors the same time I did at Kaufman's? Did you have an 02 at the time?

Ron

Hey Ron, Yes to both. I got the Bully Dog 2's. I had a Comp box until my injector pump went south. I sold it shortly after. Not worth the down time or money. Jeff

My brother talked to his "guy" today, he was in a Mega cab truck, movable rear seat, lots of interior cargo space, rear quarter windows, said he was very impressed with the overall package, no info on bed sizes or load ratings.

I'm fully aware of what Fords PR department claims to have changed to get the new ratings, I've also been under the new trucks and with the exeption of the brakes and a small increase in frame thickness, can tell you that there is no "all new from the ground up design", all they have done is a minor update to the existing chassis design, even the 4x4 coil front suspension is just a minor re-work of the standard radius arm system on the late 70s 1/2 tons. My best friend bought one of these "super fords", a F350 srw 4x4 and was so dissapointed at the "improvements" that he just traded it for a GMC duramax after just a few months

As I said its all about the lawyers not the trucks.

If you had read the TDR article to which I referred, you would have seen that quite a few things had changed that you might not even notice but which could have a significant effect on load capacities. Just one minor one - significantly larger and more gusseting between crossmembers and frame rails.

Why is it so hard to admit that the competition is making meaningful changes to go after the heavy trailer towing market? Facts are facts. With any luck, they will force Dodge to either match or better them or walk away from that market.
