Gas station attendant

I was just on the dodge site, and did i read it correctly that the mega cab is only available with a 6 foot bed :-{} what the heck???. is it too much to ask for the full 4 doors and a long bed?? Dang, i want the space inside, but no way am i giving up the long bed. i wish the jerks a dodge would just quit goofing around and do what i want. LOL

Nope, no long bed. They build the megacab on a lwb quadcab frame. They would have to build a new frame for an 8' bed. Trust me, you're not the only one jonesin' for an 8' bed! Since I can't afford a 50K truck, I guess I'll wait and see if the come out with one in the next few years. Do a search and you'll find other thoughts on the situation.

Mega Cab is a waste unless you really want an oversized truck cab and less bed space. Why not buy a Ferd and transplant the Cummins into it? I can't understand it both Ferd and GM took the plunge and made REAL crew cab trucks and DC shoves this down our throats. We seem to have a big communication problem with the foreigners running the company and them understanding what truck owners here want. But hey why would a manufacturer listen to the people that actually buy their products. The figure we'll buy them since there's no other choice.

I, personally, think the Mega Cab looks horrible. There's no reason for the "extra wall" behind the rear door. The rear doors are, obviously, bigger so wouldn't that account for the extra rear room... or is the "extra wall" actually necessary... I think not. I think that extra space would be better used for bed space.

That wide C-pillar and rear cargo area were necessary only because DC didn't want to build another frame. In order to use the existing frame, they had to make a ridiculously large cab. To make a Ford-size crew cab, they would have needed a 150" wheelbase for the shortbed and 170 for the long bed... and to make a MC long bed will require a 180" wheelbase. None of those currently exist, and since this was just a mid-cycle freshening, DC wasn't going to spend the major money to re-engineer the whole thing. If fuel becomes more reasonably priced and sales are at least stable, I'd expect Dodge to offer a more complete line at the next redesign, which will probably be 2009 or 2010.

The Dealer here swore up and down yesterday that DC would make a LWB Megacab available next fall as an '07. I showed him miy truck and what a MEGACAB is!!! Also though, the service manager said the 4500/5500 will have an inline-8 engine too!??! So they may all be full of bull$^*!

They're not shoving it down your throat. If you don't like it, don't buy it. Go buy a Ford or GM with its REAL crew cab (which one is more "real" since the GM is noticeably smaller than the Ford?). . The MC is my idea of a REAL crewcab, enough room for the crew and all their gear. GM, Ford and Dodge all sell more crew cab (Quad Cab for Dodge) shortbox trucks than longbox. Knowing that, it makes sense to produce the most popular configuration first. If it sells very well, and I think it will, then I would expect a MC longbox for '07. Some of you say that you can't tow with a shortbox, not true. I've seen many shortbox trucks of all makes with 5'ers and gooseneck trailers attached. Like KC said, just making a Ford clone with a shortbox and longbox version would very, very expensive and money is something that's short at all of the big three. Besides, if they had just cloned Ford, then you'd probably say "Why didn't they make it bigger?"

Ok, here is my deal, i keep a tool box/fuel tank combo in my truck, and try doing that on a 6 foot box then putting the fifth wheel hitch in. you end up with absolutely no bedspace. If people want a short bed great, not for me. And i dont care how much it would cost to redesign, they should have built the damn thing from the get go when the new body style came out. Heck they should have built it in 94 when the second gens came out. Cloning the size of the ford would have been fine with me, they have plenty of room AND a long bed. And as far as buying a ford and doing a transplant of the 5. 9, believe me, i go back and forth on that one all the time.

I get a kick out of the ugly/horrible comments. Same happened to the GM HD's when they put the Avalanche nose on the fronts. Everybody cried. Sales increased. Go figure.

I think the Mega Cab should have been made with a cab about the size of the Ford CC (Mega cab - storage area behind rear seat), put it on the Dodge LWB frame, and put a 7' box on it. Now, that would be a 5th wheel tow vehicle.

I think a larger wheel/tire combo would make a huge improvement on the looks. The stock 17" are just to small for that size truck IMO. I plan on getting a MC sometime next summer along with some 20 or 22" wheels.

Agree. After producing the Club Cab in '95, they should have produced a crew cab in '96 and then continued production of all three. Unfortunately, that didn't happen, Chrysler fell on tough times, merged (or was taken over, however you want to look at it) with Daimler-Benz in '98, and now, here we are. I do think they misjudged the marketplace because crew cabs have been popular for many, many years. As long as they can keep increasing marketshare and making money, I'm sure they will continue to expand their lineup.

Remember fellas, Dodge sold less than 75,000 full-sized pickups in 1993. The '94 redesign was very radical in and of itself. Market research told Dodge back in 1994 that "If you build it, they will come. " Same thing with the Mega Cab, rejoice that it has been built. More choices are in the works.

I was no fan of Dodge trucks prior to the 1994 body style. I was convinced that the path that Dodge was blazing was the correct one... especially with the Cummins engine under the hood. I ordered my truck in August of 1993 after thoroughly researching the pickup market. When I took delivery of my first Ram in December of 1993 (pre-cat converter), I could not stop at a fuel pump or convenience store without somebody asking me about my truck. We early 1994 Ram owners would wave to each other when we passed on the road. We knew that we were smarter than the Oval and Bowtie masses. In the following years, Dodge was selling over five times the number of full-sized trucks they were in the years prior.

There will be many Mega Cab options in the future. These things just take a little time.
