I forgot to mention that the mega I drove was a 2wd, I did some research and apparently since it was not 4wd that makes a difference in the handling. It sounded as if there may be a different type of steering mechanism on 4wd vs 2wd.

QC for me

When we were buying my wife's truck, I sat in the drivers seat and set it where it's comfortable, then got in the back seat. It was plenty comfortable to me. My wife's truck is a SB and nice manuaverabilty and we use it as the family "car" if you will.

For me, LB is the only way to go for towing and hauling. If I ever total out my '02, I will definitetly get a QC dually replacement. I also like the way QC seats fold up to give you flat floor over the way the MC does.

No matter what you get, it should work great 'cuz it's a Dodge w/ a Cummins.

Let us know what you decide.

I generally concur with the passengers vs. hauling trade-offs. I recently traded my 01 Laramie QC 4x4 LB 6-spd for a loaded 06 MegaCab (auto). The new one tracks much better, rides better, is certainly quieter, and is more powerful (I've run Smarty on both). I love the room, but may end up making it a long-bed if I find I can't live with the shortbed. This is the first automatic vehicle for me in about 20 years, so I'm still lamenting the loss of my 6-spd, but I love the room and hauling around the kids/family was never easier.

By the way, my Megacab only seats 5 due to the optional console, which I would seriously consider changing out for the 6 passenger setup. If anyone has thoughts on this aspect, or would consider such a swap, let me know. I'll probably start a new post soon...

kids=Mega thats for sure

I have three boys (16½, 8½, 5½), all of whom are 95 percentile or better on height (I'm 6'3" and my wife is 5'10" tall). Bought the QC dually because we knew we were going to get a large trailer. It has 95k miles on it now and when the five of us go anywhere, it's in my truck. We've taken 2000+ mile trips in it (when one was in a car seat and the other in a booster seat). For me the Quad Cab has worked fine. I wanted an 8' bed.

I'd buy another Quad Cab if I ever replaced this one (which I won't).

I have the 2008 Mega Cab in White. I'm glad I ordered the White to help keep the truck cooler in summer. With this much cab to cool in hot weather, the A/C system needs all the help it can get. No kidding, a White versus a Black truck will have two really different experiences on a HOT day!

This is a really great truck. With everything stock, on a road trip at 60-65 MPH she will get 18-19 MPG hand calc.

I will be happy to trade my center seat, I really like that center console!

Do you ever venture out to the Reno/Carson City area?

As a matter of fact, my wife and I grew up in the Reno area, and we have plenty of family in the area still, including our son/daughter. Coincidently, we'll be in Reno the first week of June for a wedding.

I haven't done too much investigation on how such a swap would work, but I am interested if I don't lose any options along the way. For example, it would be much easier to work a grey leather for grey leather swap. Also, I've got the power, heated seats. I'm assuming the hardware bolts up directly, but perhaps the swap just entails changing the center console for a new seat portion? Not sure of the implications for the dash either. I haven't had time to evaluate this completely, but it would be nice to be able to haul 6 in a pinch. Feel free to add any insight you may have...

I agree Juan, I'd much rather have a QC long bed then a Mega cab short bed.

Love the Mega

I had a 2003 quad and now 2006 Mega. Tow a 32 foot 5th wheel for our "Road Trips". When the kids were smaller (under 10) the QC was fine But when we got the Mega I heard... " we can go on a few more hours" The back seat room is great even for 2 adults and a 100 pound dog. The short bed has not been a problem with towing using a reese slider. In all very pleased with the mega cab. Only down point is I never get to strech out in the back!

Like others have said. . Kids=Mega!

We have twin girls 1. 5 years old now and 4 year old boy. Last summer we did a 3000 mile round trip to Yellowstone. The girls could not face backwards in the cars seats in my 01 QC. . or it was very tight. . my wife was in the dash w/ one car seat behind her. We thought we might make it w/ the QC if we rode it out for a year as the kids can face forwards after 1 year and 20 pounds. Guess what. . one girl is still 18 pounds and older than one and I am glad we got the Mega. It was tough giving up bed space. . all this means is now I have to remove hitch if I want to haul anything as I also have a tool box.

On our trip, the wife was able to stand bent over back there and tend to the kids if they dropped toys etc. It really is a great truck. If you have kids over one or at least can face forward, you might be OK w/ the QC but don't discount the Mega until you look at one and drive it.

Good luck
