My dealer told me monday that DCX was bringing out an 8' foot bed with the megacab in 2007. Any truth to this? I was thinking about ordering a quadcab 3500 when he said this. I told him I would be willing to wait. Thoughts?? Oo.

Be careful what you ask for. I had a 89 Ford Crew Cab 4x4 with the 8 foot bed. It was horrible to park, especially in shopping centers, we would take 4 spaces so we could get out, but it was great on the road and pulling a trailer. My wife almost refused to drive it if she was going shopping, and would only use it if the kids had the other cars.

From what I understand this will never happen. The mega cab shortbed is on the same frame as the quad cab long bed and I cannot imagine that they would tool an entirely new frame for a 24 foot long truck.

I know this because I wanted one and asked!

As far as I know this is mis information, did you ask the sales person where they had gotten their info from? I would not expect a true crew cab long box until MY 2009 when the all new Ram is scheduled to be re designed. IMO I wouldn't wait for an 2007+ truck with EGR, VGT & Particulate Filtration and closed crank case venting. Just my two cents. Your pre 2007 CTD will likely require less overall maintenance, consume less fuel, be more reliable, and worth more and become more valuable with time. I would get one while you can.

Remember their now tooling for a new 3500, 4500 and 5500 all with a straight frame...

They could add the mega cab and long box on one of the new frames listed above...

Man, if they offered a mega cab long bed 1-ton (or heavier) dually, I'd actually consider trading in my '02. Hmm...

And I personally don't care if it is like parking the Titanic, I'd drive it. I drove crew cab long bed duallys for years, and you just have to deal with the size accordingly.

Hi,

I spoke with two different people on the issue; one who is inventory manager at a local dealership here in Phoenix (with high volume) and the other was the fleet manager at another dealership here in Phoenix. Both I would say have some credibility on the issue, but of course if you run into an executive at DC and you here different please let us know.

I would really love to get one.

My understanding is that the factory that builds the Ram would have to be redesigned to allow for a MegaCab Long Bed. Apparently the production line turns a corner that the extra length would not be able to negotiate. I may have gotten this from thecarconnection.com, but can't remember as the information came out when the MegaCab was still a concept.

How about another driver at the back of the truck like a hook-n-ladder fire truck?

I think you would need to register the front of the truck in one county and the back of the truck in another county. That could get expensive.

GM dropped the rear steer this year... too expensive.

If the frame is too long for the factory, maybe it will be offered with the cab and chassis frames in 08'. The info from dodge now shows only three wheelbases available. Hopefully Dodge will try to give the F4/5/6/750's and Kodiaks some competition.

Megacab with 84" cab to axle is for me.

Personally I have never understood everyones infatuation with the mega cab or crew cabs but then I always sit behind the steering wheel.
Soon as the kids start whining about cramped conditions back there, few smacks upside the head and then theres plenty of room back there again. :D
I love my long bed though and cant imagine life without it. I would never give up a long bed for a mega cab.

I like your thinking :D :D

I, too, will not give up my 8' box. Gotta have a long bed, but I really like the Mega Cab for the kids (didn't have kids when I purchased my regular cab).

When I bought my '06 QC here in Tucson, the salesman tried to talk me into a mega, but I didn't want one. Cab looks too long. He told me they were having a hard time getting rid of mega cabs. You very rarely see one here in Tucson.
