I have been waiting patiently since 1994 for Dodge to finally make a real crew cab, and now that it is finally here……forget it!!

I priced two trucks this weekend. They where nearly identical, the first was a SRW 3500 Quad Cab and the other a 3500 Mega Cab.

Both where equipped the same, not counting the additional 15 inches of length in the MegaCab the only difference was $7600 less in my wallet.

That is $500 an inch!!! The dealer was willing to sell for invoice on the Quad Cab ($37,728), but because of high demand would not go below $45,328 (2K over inv) on the Mega. :-{}

For that amount of money, the kids and the occasional rear seat passenger will have to suffer. Kudos to DC for finally seeing the light and building some competition to the GM and Ford crew cabs, but come on, for that price I can live without reclining rear seats. :(

Hmmmm... that must be the "market price adjustment" we hear about. All about supply and demand... . they'll supply it, and demand more money. :D

The actual difference is only $2-3,000 depending on which QC you compare to. It is $3k more than a QC SB and about $2300 more than a QC LB. I used CTD 6 spd, SLT trim 3500 4x4 models for comparison.

I also bet if you check around that you can find a Mega without some fabricated "demand" mark-up. My dealer has about 8 Mega's, he has had them a while, mine is the first and only one they have sold. I traded my two QC trucks, both 3500 4x4 one lwb one swb. They unloaded the sb in two days, the lb in six. Tell me where the real demand lies ;)

If you can wait a few months, the price will come down and you should be able to pick up a megacab for the same price point as the quad cab. Patience young jedi... ...

Usually the manufacturer will load the lots with only very high spec vehicles at the launch as well. Many of the 50K plus stickers that are floating around are because of Nav, Sunroof, and Rear DVD. This is several thousand dollars worth of "goodies" that were not on most of the prior models.

When you compare apples to apples, there is only going to be about a $2k difference in the models. I suspect that $2K will come back to you in spades when you trade in.

Dodge has a hot product and everybody wants one! I kept hearing "I wish Dodge had a crew cab like fords, the four-door ford is so much better, yap, yap, yap".

Now that Dodge has one (and it's better!) I don't care to hear the crying about how much it costs

Well, I see that you are a patient man. I would maybe suggest that you might find one in about another year, that some one trades for a newer one. There are a bunch of people that trade good low mileage units off every year. Then the biggest depreciation is used up by them, and you should get a good deal. I realise that you are then stuck with the options that they wanted, but, hey, for the thousands that you save, you could add a few of your own. Just a thought. I know how depressing it is to shop for new, with the $$ being what they are. Good luck to you. Hope you get one.

Dodge went way overboard in my opinion here. they are gonna lose a ton of sales do to the fact that they do not offer a longbed model. The ford crewcab is plenty big and offers long and shortbeds. if dodge would have made theirs the same size as fords I belive they would sell alot more. I would buy one then but the mega cab is just too... ... big!!! thats just my 02... Oo.

I do not think so. I was comparing two trucks that with the exception of color where exactly the same. Apples to apples. Invoice price difference was over $6000.

Sure I could get a Mega Cab in SLT trim with no options for the same price as a Laramie QC but that isn't what I want to do.

In 95 when Dodge made the 2d gen extended cab they where not $5000 more than the regular cab.

So according to your logic we should all be quiet when they do make the Mega Cab long bed and it is $4000 more than the short bed.

And the dually long bed will be $4000 more than that. :-laf

Well if you're willing to defect, I saw a MegaCab "1500"(really a 2500 Hemi configuration) 4x4 Hemi SLT for msrp $37,800 sitting next to a 1500 QC 4x2 Laramie Hemi with MSRP $36,900. You could probably drive that MegaCab off for around $30,000.

No way!! Oo. Oo.

Somebody is getting bad numbers. I took mine from edmunds.com. In the past I have found them to be within a few bucks of actual. The 3500 megacab 4x4 diesel six speed with SLT trim invoices for $37,400. The 3500 QC 4x4 diesel six speed with SLT trim invoices for $36,500 as a long box and $34,600 as a short box. No disrespect meant but nowhere do I see a $5000 plus difference in price. As far as I know there is also a $2000 rebate on the Mega. That isn't to say the megacab can't get to be rediculously expensive, mine stickered at over $53k, right up there with a King Ranch Ford. There is no doubt the pick-up truck has gotten pretty spendy

I just went and built two identical SLT SWB trucks on the Dodge web site. One was Mega and one was Quad. The price diff was $1850. 00 list and would be about $1600. 00 cost. Thats not too far off from my original GUESS.

Well as hard as I tried, Edmonds wouldn't sell me a truck. Neither would Dodge.com

I know what I saw on both the sticker and the invoice at the dealership.

On a 2006 Dodge Ram 3500 Mega Cab 4x4 Laramie (6 speed) and a 2006 Dodge Ram 3500 4x4 SRW Laramie Quad Cab (6 speed) there is more than what your are saying as the difference. A lot more.

Dealer was willing to sell at invoice for the QC but not the MC. Perhaps when there are more of them on the lots around the country that will change.

For the sake of augment (which I never intended to do) I looked at Edmonds, KBB and Dodge.com and they are all in line with what I saw at my local dealer.

So I do not know where the disconnect is. Doesn't matter. My original comment was and still is valid. As much as I would like a MC, for the price difference I will keep mine!

Mega Cabs - Bah Humbug

I have seen a Mega Cab and liked the room, but I use my 04 2500 QC CDT 8' long bed to haul stuff, so this 6' bed just ain't gonna cut it. I need a practical truck instead of a pretty truck IMHO.

I did have to enter my zip code. Maybe Dodge prices the trucks $4000. 00 cheaper in AL than they do in KS. I guess the boys in Detroit are not fans of Jayhawks or Wildcats.
