I am no where close to being a mechanic, but have a lot of friends who are helping in the GLTDR. Question what exactly happens when you run high exhaust gas temperatures for too long?Is this a slow process or can some damage occurr immediately? THANKS

Kaptn, high EGT's will crack heads, melt piston, and valves. Even if the short term damage isnt apparent, the engine will never last the 400K it was designed to,the rings will be weakened, and possibklt cyl scored if you get it hot enough. Towing is where the problems lie,IMO,since the high EGT's are constant,at least drag racers, and pullers, only have runs lasting 10-15 sec tops, towing long grades can run EGT;s in the meltdown zone for minutes on end. Anyway you look at it,we are overfueling the heck out of our engines, they are holding up great,IMO.
