Member 'crash-AF' has broken down in Pueblo CO.

5:30 PM Fri nite June 15

His truck with a newly rebuilt injection pump has no throttle control and just runs away with itself. He can shut it off with the key, though.

Linkages check out OK.

Problem is- he's got a gooseneck trailer hooked up with 2 heavy cars onboard, and can't get off the hiway.

Anyone out there near Pueblo with a gooseneck hitch can help out??

Anybody got any ideas on fixes for the pump to limp the truck in??

Joe has a borrowed cell phone- if you can help his number is 719 963 0414.

I'll assume it's a P7100 pump...

Sounds like something is hanging up on the rack on the inside of the injection pump, giving it full throttle all the time WITH the ability to shut it off. Try removing the AFC housing, and look down in the cavity where the cam plate resides. Check for evidence of something binding or hanging up.

Wish I was closer, as this sounds like a very interesting problem...

I just got home and found this thread. It's now after 1:30am mountain time. Just wondering if Crash AF got back on the road or home or to a repair shop okay. Hope some TDR guys were able to help him out.

Let us know the outcome and the cause of the problem. Someone in the future may benefit from the knowledge gained if they experience the same problem.

It's situations like theses that are the reason why we need to get more members signed up in the Travel Companion. I'm just going to copy-and-paste what Power Wagon wrote on another topic:

The TDR travel companion area does not have a lot of entries.

You don't need to be a mechanic, an expert, or anything else. You just need to be willing to help out a fellow TDR member when/if they need some help. It might be nothing more than finding an RV park, or chasing parts, or even just providing some phone numbers to the right places to get thier business done.

This is one of the things we, as members, can do for each other that really need not cost us anything, but can provide a world of help and relieve a world of stress and difficulty for someone else.

We're all over this great land, and for the most part, the people who are subscribed here are some of the nicest and most knowledgeable. Please, I encourage you to help us make a very good idea work, and perhaps you might even make a new friend or two.

Just go to the TDR Member Exclusives area www.turbodieselregister.com/members/ and click on the "Travel Companion" link.

Andy... I agree with you and PW... but it will be better as soon as we can edit our entries. I forgot my phone number, so it needs editting. This was a great idea from Shelby Griggs.

Evan... I notice you aren't signed up yet.

TDR Travel companion

Hope crash_AF found help.

I have also been waiting for the edit feature. After reading mine, it seemed I could have worded it a bit differently. I wanted folks to know that I was capable of towing a 5er or tagalong to a nearby campground if their truck was broke down and there was a Dodge dealer nearby also. I hope it dosen't look like I'm advertising a business!

my user name and pass word that works for everything else, wont get me into travel companion. I just keep getting a dialogue box saying authorization is required

Any reason???????

Vaughn

P/W required for it....

Vaughn,

that area is "members only" and you need to use the "other" password and logon.

SOTSU!!

Have tried several times to make changes, wanted to add some more items to what I had entered. Can't seem to make it happen. So what am I doing wrong?

TIA

Would love a follow up from crash_AF to see how help arrived etc. You feel helpless as a one legged man in a but kicking contest when you are clear out of the area where help is needed. You have visions of the danger he is in sitting on the travel portion of the highway. Hope all ended well.

Guys I have talked with Joe's wife and he is still broke down. We can't seem to locate anyone here in town with a Gooseneck hitch to help Joe get his trailer out of there. He has a car hauler fully equipped with about 12,000lbs of cargo. I am trying to find someone to help... . anyone know anyone in town with a gooseneck?????

I am in contact with Joe and his wife... so hopefully we can get him home soon. If anyone can help, please call me at 303-885-2875.

Thanks

Kev

i wish i was closer i could help. if you unload the cars from the trailer you can then put the trailer on your 2 5/16 ball on your receiver. i wouldn't travel cross country like this but it will get the trailer moved.

Nope, still stuck

Hi all,

Just found this post... Didn't even think to post on the new Ram forum. It's still sitting on the side of the highway in Pueblo.

The truck is a 93 D-350 with a VE pump, the pump was rebuilt two months ago.

Later,

Joe H

Hi guys,

Just got this message. I'm usually not online except for when I am "working". :D.

Anyway, If you are still stuck, I know someone who can help. He has the gooseneck hitch setup and hauls cars for a living. E-mail me at -- email address removed -- and I will contact the guy who should be able to help. Also. Kevin Arts has all my phone numbers! I'll try sending you an e-mail directly.

Just to update everybody...

I talked to Joe this morning. He's still broke down. Dave is slammed today with construction and car hauling and can't help, but he will loan me his Dually with the gooseneck hitch setup to go down and help out. Right now Kevin Arts is trying to find another guy to drive down with me to help tow Joe's truck back as well. I won't be able to leave work until about 3:30 or 4:00 this afternoon and it's a long drive to Pueblo!

The Saga continues

Well, there's good news and bad news. The good news is that truck and trailer are home. The bad news is that the Getrash decided that it wanted to die. The rear main bearing on the transmission siezed and caught on fire.

So now I'm in need of a transmission in addition to the repair on the injection pump. *sigh*

Many thanks go out to Fuzz and Sean for assisting with the recovery operation.

Later,

Joe

Joe,

Sorry Fuzz and I had to leave so soon after we dropped your truck and trailer off, but time was running short. Even though I hauled a$$ home, I didn't get home until almost 11:00pm. I had to drive back to Aurora, hook up Dave's car hauler, take it over to his house, back it into the "black hole", pick up my truck, then drive home. 11:00 is late for me especially when I have to get up at 5:00am.

Since your fuel pump appeared to fail to wide open, did anybody check the obvious things like a stuck throttle cable? I didn't even think of it until I was speeding back to Denver.

Can you find another used Getrag? I'd hate to see you junk the whole truck, especially if you pull the Cummins and put it in that Ford Crew Cab.
