Lest we not forget this Memorial Day and the ultimate sacrifice that so many gave to save and protect , “The United States of America.”

I have heard so many poor renditions of our National Anthem and doing a little search I came across this…the best I’ve heard in a long time.

Fair winds..following seas..and clear skies to the fallen.

Fellow Veterans and other TDR Members,

I hear ya on hating poor renditions of the National Anthem...some folks feel like they can rearrange it for their singing style.

I'm editing versus adding more posts: I have the worst singing voice of anyone, but I will sing the best I can. One time at Andrews, I was awarded a decoration by my commander, and when done, she asked me to lead off singing the Air Force Song and handed me the mic. I did my best, but was never asked to sing anything again, to everyone's benefit.

Tomorrow I have family and friends over. We'll say a prayer, well Pledge Allegiance to the Flag, and we'll sing the National Anthem. Then, we'll BBQ.

God Bless America, our Brothers and Sisters in harm's way, and for our Sacred Fallen.

Totally understood.
Regarding military service in family, my Moms paternal line has served in almost every US military action from Vietnam back to the American Revolution. That 7th Great grandfather was killed by Indians while protecting a fort in unsettled Illinois.
In my later years, I do sort of regret not giving service to my country. Understand that I was never a dodger or anything like that.
Regarding flying my flag, being a city dweller, I do not have a permanent pole like many rural properties do. So my holder is tied to my stairs railings, and when it’s gusty, shakes them pretty well, and the flag gets all wound up on itself.
So unless I can fly it perfectly and in perfect style, I won’t do it.
Enjoy your Memorial Day. It’s more than BBQ.

I will play the national anthem on my keyboard next Sunday at the opening of the Salem (Va.)VA center's memorial for veterans who've died in the past year (family/friends will be placing engraved stones/bricks in a specific location at the center). I hope I don't screw it up. I've been playing it for 50-odd years for myself, but if I don't concentrate, I can lose my place. This week, I'll be practicing with CNN talking heads mixed in; I hope that will help me focus on the music and ignore the distractions around me.

You'll do just fine! Good on you for playing and participating. I praise anyone who gives the effort and I wished I could be there to cheer you on!

Here's someone doing their best:

Not sure the count on how many generations. I and a couple of cousins were in vietnam. Another cousin (we lost him a few weeks ago at age 85) was in Korea. My dad, a few cousins, and a bunch of uncles were in WWII. Grandfather and great uncle in WWi (great uncle was gassed). Great grandfather in the Spanish American war ( he was at san juan hill). Dont know how many, but a few in the civil war. As far as I know, we missed the mexican war. Had some in the Revolution. One even signed the Declaration of Independence. Before that I know that at least one was in the french and indian war (I know, that was fighting for england not the US).

Fest3er...I doubt that you will screw up...shut out the peripheral distractions and rely upon what comes natural.

Just got through watching Memorial Day Ceremony at Arlington Cemetery with Vice President Pence Presiding live on C-Span. As is common for me, I shed tears for our fallen, including family and friends. There are other showings of it I recommend seeing.

Added: I'm recording so I can watch again later.

Thank you fellow military for your service and sacrifice, and thank you non-military for all your support and patriotism.

America, land of the free and home of the brave.

So my friends, this was/is a wonderful thread. Here is a little lighter side of Memorial Day today with my niece visiting together while my BIL cooks.

One of the things we did on active duty was have cookouts and share friendship, in the Middle East, in Iceland and other places around the world. Today I've remembered and honored friends no longer here, ones who still make me laugh, and to ones I've never met, but are still close brothers and sisters. And here's to y'all for making this another "memorable" Memorial Day.

Cheers. Ron
