Guns, Bows, Shooting Sports, and Hunting Neoprene Wader Repair

OK - help me - does anybody have one - I know the Tempur-Pedic is th eone advertised the most and ther are lots of others... ... any real world examples..... and I know that mattresses are like pizza's - I mean people like different things... ... soft, hard etc. . I'm more interested in the mattress material - are the memory foams as good as the salespeople want you to believe.

Buddy of mine at work has a Bob-O-Pedic memory mattress and he ended up paying 1500. 00 LESS than the major brand. He swears by it but said that at first it takes some getting used to ... especially in the summer.

Funnier still is that ummm how do we say "Extra Cirricular" mattress activities are affected in certain situations. (That is a roger on the negative side there ghost rider)

Oh my bad, he said that at first it seemed to feel "Stuffy" as it does not breathe like a mattress does. And heaven help you if you spill anything on it (I. E no way to extract fluids)

Memory Foam beds

I switched to a Supple Pedic about five years ago after 20 using a Beauty Rest. Also med. size memory foam pillow. I got mine for several hundred dollars off, $1,100. out the door because the previous couple tried it and returned after a week because they got too hot in it. I love it, the best bed I've ever slept on, so far. Even in the cold of winter an 62 in my room, thats cool, my bed will warm up from sucking the heat from me and in no time I'm cozy. Single for some time, I sleep alone, but when I was "sharing my crib" it was significantly warmer no question. As for "copious activities", yeah, some body parts tend to sink into the foam, like my knees, but I can't find anything negative to add when enjoying the various acts of nature with my mate. . :-laf

I put a 2" memory foam mattress pad ( bought at Costco) on top of my spring mattress & find it very comfortable. It's true that is is warm in the summer months, & I live in Phoenix!!!

What I did was to use flannel sheets, year around. They are thick enough that the mattress pad is not excessively hot in the hot months.

The major complaint I have with the pad is that it slides around on top of the spring mattress. I have to re-adjust it, occasionally. This is not enough of a problem that I would do away with the pad, though. I would buy it again.

Yep, the heat is definitely a factor, specially with 2 in the bed, it seems to absorb and retain your body heat and just build up, 1 person no problem, 2 just gets hot.
About the "extra " activities, all I say is "no bounce" due to no springs, makes for a good workout though :)

We have a 2" topper from Costco that is over a Sleep Number air bed. I generally like it but part of my sleep problem stems from painful shoulders so that's why I say I "generally like it. " Compared to a full memory foam mattress the price is much more attractive-- somewhere around $160. I'm 6'3", 215 lbs.

Finally got a Tempur-Pedic this summer after trying to convince my wife for many years. Best mattress I have ever slept on; tried a 2" foam topper over the Simmons but it doesn't compare. Takes some getting accustomed to as the mattress is initially quite firm when you lay on it but your body heat causes the foam to conform to you. Our mattress is on a platform bed so we saved the cost of the foundation which is nothing more than a really nice box used to support the mattress.

That's all I need is a comfortable bed - I'd be late for work every day.

Honestly, I'd be better off sleeping on the floor. It would force me to get up at a decent hour. ;)

We have had the Tempur-Pedic Celebrity for 6 months. Words really cannot decscribe how great the sleep is. Fall to sleep much faster. I was so rested when I awoke that I felt drunk. Took me a few minutes to wake up. I know I was sleeping better because when I awoke my left side was numb because I did not roll over during the night. Our queen size now feels much larger because of no more rolling to the center.

From what I can tell about people complaining from too much heat retention is Tempure makes about a dozen different models. I think some of the low end models are softer allowing you sink in more becoming enveloped in the matteress. Our Celebrity is firm. The Raphsody model is a very firm 7. 0 density.

Our 2 Tempure pillow seemed to be overstuffed, so my wife unstiched the pillow, removed about 1/4 of the stuffing. She then took that stuffing and made another pillow.

We sleep 1/3 of our lives, why not do it in perfection.

Check to see if they have any used matteresses. Ours was used for 2 weeks by someone we knew and we saved $980.

I got a memory foam mattress for my dog he liked it so much I buried him with it. On the human size ones sorry I can't be more help...

NIKKEN Magnetic Mattress

Laugh if you want however, my wife is a distributor for NIKKEN (NIKKEN. Com).

They make many wonderful mattresses one is about 2 in. thick and just lies on top of your regular mattress however, it has magnets placed throughout and I will guarantee you if you have aches or pains or just do not sleep well at night you will be amased. 4-6 hrs is the equivelient of 8 hrs normal and will wake up feeling better than you even did. They also make an sleep number mattress and regular mattresses but the topper in my opinion works just as well. Just for what it is worth.

We bought one - a California King size, 3 inch thick model to place on top of our "regular" mattress. I've had 2 lower back surgeries, and normally find it difficult/impossible to sleep without constant twisting and turning to find a comfortable sleeping position.

The memory foam mattress cured all that - and I now sleep for hours at a time with no need to change positions - and wake up FAR better refreshed than previously - liked it so well that we bought another, 4 inch thick queen-size version, to replace the mattress in our RV - and like it equally well for all the same reasons.

A simple and common moisture barrier liner between the bottom sheet and mattress cures any issues in that area - and the summer/winter issues have been non-issues for us. We bought ours thru Overstock.com: Online Shopping - Bedding, Furniture, Electronics, Jewelry, Clothing & more , and they each were under $200...

I highly recommend them - in our case, they have been FAR better than the past standard, high quality mattresses and water-bed mattress we have tried to help with our back related issues.

Costco has 3"- "toppers" that are supposed to address the "heat" problem. They, also, have full-thickness foam matresses.

Gary, is the mattress in your RV a full size queen? Or is it a RV size? If so, did you trim the foam? Even with a mattress topper, the mattress in our TT is a POS. Terribly uncomfortable unless you go to sleep with enough booze to give you a headache in the morning!:-laf

More to the topic, we got a latex mattress several years back. No sinking or settling. I like it. It is actually two twins (or fulls?) that make a Cal King. One is a little firmer than the other.

The one I got was a standard queen size - as was the original standard type mattress it replaced. Our mattress just sits on a platform at the front of the 5er above the hitch - no box it has to fit into.

My only regret with the one in the 5er, was that I got a 4 inch thick, when one slightly thicker would have been better, since by the next morning, we have settled far enough into the foam to get close to the carpeted deck under the mattress - no reflection on the foam - just needed more thickness in this particular application.

All that has now been remedied as a result of this thread, since I went over to the Overstock site and ordered a 2 inch Memory Foam Topper, that we will place under the 4 incher - and that should be just right - got the new setup and 2 of the memory foam pillows for $79, + $2 or so shipping... Oo.

Thanks Gary. I'll look at Overstock too to see if they have a regular mattress. If it doesn't cost too much, I'll trim it to fit.
