Mercedes 2.7 liter CDI diesel...

I'm sure this has been discussed before but its the first time I have seen it. I went to the local Dodge dealer today to order my crankshaft sensor and picked up some brochures. Dodge has a new van called the Sprinter and it is avaliable with a 154 hp, 243 lb-ft of torque, five cylinder 2. 7 CDI turbo diesel. Doesn't seem like much power but is this the way of the future for the HD Rams? Anyone else have any insight on this or am I just plain speculating?

You have to realize it's a van, not really intended for towing anything and much lighter than our trucks, 154 hp may be plenty.

Those sprinters are awesome. The high torque of the CDI has plenty of power for that van's use, and gets good mpg. I still haven't quite figured out why they didn't use the 320 CDI engine though. .

My work truck is a 92 ford F250 with the efi 4. 9(300cid) six cyl is 150 hp and 260 ft/lbs, it has enough power to get the job done. I think the little sprinter diesel would make a good 1500 or light duty 2500 engine option.

as most of you know, I own one of these.



It has gotten 30 mpgs before, on long jaunts. I average over 25mpgs. It can out accelerate a Ram, and hold 2 tons of weight(but not do both at the same time) . I haul that much all the time. I am concerned with the "lack of bulk" on the frame, and the rear end.

hey e7mack can you get a price on the intercooler for your sprinter?. . i talked with a guy in holland that used th esprinter intercooler in his vw rabbit pickup . . its all aluminum and kinda similar to the dodge style plus it fits between rad and grille on the vw. .

just figured i'd ask i've yet to ask a dealer myself. . i have thought about buying a sprinter in teh short wheel base as a minivan for the wife and baby to be etc. . but speced out decent it was similarly prices to a "melton" price fro a 2003 3500 4x4 quad cab etc ho cummins ... plus the passenger sprinter verisons are not that plush kinda like a mitsu or bering cabover etc.
