raced a 6.0 auto this morning

i was at the dealer today and my salesman told me that sometime in 2004 cummins willl be out of the dodge and mercedes benz will be in. does anyone know about this yet?

does anyone have horsepower and torque figures yet?

please let me know. I am ready toorder a truck and the benz idea ahs caught my fancy.

From what Cummins has to say the Mercedes will be a while yet. There are lots of rumours though. I was told that Dodge has Mercedes engines in some 3500's with Mercedes power as a test bed. Would be nice to have the choice wouldn't it. See below.

FAQ On Cummins.com Web page

When does the Cummins and Dodge contract expire?

Cummins and DaimlerChrysler signed a Long Term Agreement several years ago that made Cummins the exclusive supplier of diesel engines in Dodge Ram pickups through 2007 calendar year. The partnership between the two companies extends from in-plant support to service, on-site engineering to marketing support. Cummins has shipped nearly 1,000,000 engines for the Dodge Ram and we continue to forge a successful team with Dodge and all of DaimlerChrysler.

Northerner ;)

I bet the salesman heard that a "new" diesel was coming in 2004 and assumed is was a Mercedes when in fact it's the EGR equipped Cummins. If and when there is a choice of diesels in the Dodge, I'm sticking with Cummins. And if the Cummins were not available in the Dodge, I'd have to go where it was available or go back to (choke) gas.

Just my way of thinking.

I may be called old fashioned but leave well enough alone!!! My fear is that they will go to an aluminum headed diesel and the durability goes out the window. As far as I am concerned, The 5 cyl Mbz 3ltr turbo diesel was the best car diesel ever built. The 12 and 24 valve Cast iron Cummins is and will be the best engine for medium duty trucks for a long time. Of course I may be prejuced:D Chris
