I have a 1995 with 157K miles on her. I knew the KDP might be a problem but I thought it was a hard job to tear the front of my truck apart and check it. I have been leaking a ton of oil so I pointed my flashlight on the front cover right under the idler pulley bracket and stepped up the idle... ... . a real nice flow of oil was running out. MY Message is that it took me very little time and effort to get to the KDP unfortunately in my case it had already cracked the housing BUT I was lucky it did no other damage. If you are wondering if your KDP is going to get you take about 2 hours and check it! You dont need to pull your bumper, innercooler or transmission cooler. I pulled six bolts out of the upper core support. 2 bolts holding the hood release. slid the overflow bottle off as well as the windshield washer resovour. took off radiator hoses and the radiator simply slips upward out of the truck. Took the pulley off the idler bearing, unbolted the idler bracket. I used an air chizel to losen the fan clutch. took the harmonic balancer off with a 1/2" impact. took all the tin cover bolts off and pulled the front tin cover. SIMPLE SIMPLE SIMPLE. DO IT Today before you ruin your motor :O)

you dont even have to pull the radiator. they are very simple and easy to do. now if you replace the gear housing that's alittle more involved.

just have to pull the fan shroud. took me about 10hrs but im very slow with mechanical work. hardest part was getting the fan nut loose. dont forget to replace the front mainseal while your there.

I don't understand any of this. The fan will rotate out when it's removed from it's mount. Remove the pulley, sensor, and dampner. The only thing left is the 10 mm bolts and the cover. That's it.

Due to year to year differences in the shroud and fan clutches, some are really tight and might not be able to be removed without pulling the shroud first. Mine was really close until I switched to a NAPA fan clutch.

Was able to walk my fan and fan clutch out together, without removing the shroud. Would give a bit better access if you did though. Left mine in place.
