I've been looking at metal cutting bandsaws lately. The horizontal/vertical type would be most versatile so I can cut square, round, angle, etc. stock in the horizontal vise as well as sheet metal on the vertical table attachment. The model I'm considering is a Jet HVBS-7MW.

The best price I've found so far is from here: http://www.northwestpowertools.com/bandsaws/hvbs7mw.htm

The link above doesn't show a picture of it, so here is what it looks like: http://www.wmhtoolgroup.com/JETMetal/Tools/HVBS56M.html

What do you think? Good machine? Price?

Sean, that's the same model I've been eying, seems like a nice unit, cept the import part of it (which they all are at that level). In that price range/size there really does'nt seem to be a better choice, IMO.

Pihllip, those look like very nice saws, not sure I wanna know what they cost though. :) I know the qualitly would be there, but since they want your company name when you e-mail them, I doubt they are priced for your average homeowner.

Sean: I thought the metal fab equipment purchase scenario was supposed to go like this... . TIG welder, plasma cutter (Hypertherm... of course), MIG welder... . :-laf

Matt

:-laf :p Well, already have the TIG and MIG machines. Would really like to get the plasma cutter, but for what I've got planned (at least for a while) the plasma cutter isn't so well suited for the job. It's definitely still on the list though :D

We have a DoALL saw at work for metal. . Best one ive ever seen in a shop. Its very old. Look for auctions at shops in your area. Im sure the ones built these days arent as sturdy and powerful like the older ones.
