Hello;

I posted a while back about a grinding noise in my rear diff when taking off from a stop. I was running Amsoil Series 2000 and several people posted they had the same problem when running that lube and recommended I change lubes. I put Redline in the rear diff today and it does seem to have stoped the noise but I was alarmed to see how much metal was on the magnetic drain plug. There were even several chips around 1/16" in size. The truck only has 17,000 miles on it but the amount of metal on the magnet seems excessive even for a diff that is probably still breaking in. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Thanks

Gino

As long as the metal looks like gray mud you're alright. Chips & chunks are not good, they can get into bearings and ruin them, not to mention that the chip is broken off of something.

If I found chips that size I would save them and go to the dealer; get it on record. Ask to have the diff inspected.

Then if it gets worse you've got some ammo.

Gary.
