metal in trans pan 2003 47re

I am changing the oil and filter in my brother in-laws 2003 turbo diesel auto trans today and stuck to the magnet in the pan was two pieces of metal each being about one inch long. They look like they came from a large snap ring. They are about .080 thick and .200 wide. There were no issues with the transmission , we are just doing a routine service prior to pulling the boat to the lake. Any ideas where these could have come from and can it be fixed? Should I just put it back together and hope for the best? The truck has 233,000 miles and the trans has been serviced every spring. Thanks, Charlie.

Probably the OD clutch retainer snap ring, that is the usual source of those pieces. It will work until it won't, no telling what or when.

Thanks cerberusiam, just got back from a local transmission shop and I showed the tech the pieces and he said the same thing. Decision time I guess. Thanks again!
