While changing the fluid in my trans i found a chunk of metal on the magnet. I have driven the truck all morning with not a problem. 4 speed 48re 120k on trans. Any ideas where the metal came from?
I found a piece just like that in my old 96 trans and never found out what it was but it went for 2 more years and 60k+ till it was traded with out a problem
All the "shade tree mechanics" (friends) think its the largest retaining ring in the overdrive unit. It's the simple choice for now. I will pull it this weekend and check.

*********FOLLOW-UP**********
I pulled the transfer case off and the overdrive unit. I replaced the retaing ring at the front of the overdrive unit. I have put about 3,000 miles on it since and hasn't missed a beat.
