I was just wondering if anyone else is running a water methanol system. What kind of setup do you have and how is your power and egts? I just put a setup in my truck today and I am really impressed. Dropped egts by about 300 degrees and what feels like 40 extra horses when it kicks in. Also what size nozzles are being used?

Snows stage 2. Defently a top notch kit. I have the controller to come on at 12 lbs and full at 20. Its the only way I can go full throttle.

Are you running WW fluid, or mixing your own water/meth?

Is the cooling mist kit variable, or just an on/off system?

As far as nozzle size, from what Ive figured, 1-10 gpm nozzle should work ok. I was planning on using a 5gpm and a 10gpm on my system (if/when I ever do it), with the 5 setup on a 0-20psi hobbs and the 10 on a 20-120psi hobbs.

Mark, you bring up a point that has been bothering me about water/meth. You say the kit uses nonferrous materials that the water/meth won't attack. Sadly, there's lots of ferrous parts in the remainder of the parts of our engines that are ferrous. What long term adverse effects are there from use of water/meth injection? The short-term benefits of EGT reduction and increased power are undisputed, but at what cost?

Jim Fulmer was running a bunch of water/methanol through his, and last time he tore it down he had good reports.

BBD was also running a LOT of water/meth. The current owner has the motor torn down, and I think Scott has pics. You might ask if there were any effects on the intake, etc from the methanol.

May not be a big deal, but I'm considering the Snow kit. That's just a question I've had about water/methanol. Hydrolocking is another concern of mine.

devilsown water/methanol injection for a diesel engine

I ran a devilsownonline.com kit for a while on my PSD 7. 3 and loved it. With lots of mods, chips stacked, EGTs almost never crossed 1,100 with a BHAF and stock exhaust. The advertisements of lowering EGTs 200-300 degrees are true. I plan to install it on my 12 valve once i find a boost reference.

It is very adjustable but requires a bit of tuning, depending on ambient temperatures, to correctly lower the onset. It will "put out the flame" so you must dial it back for drivability in low RPMs to avoid detonation. On hot summer days i could have the dual nozzles inject full power around 10-12 psi. It is a very nice seat of the pants boost in power, makes the truck move. Especially when towing, you really notice it pulling a big load.

I can set mine so it will kick in as low as 1. 5 psi of turbo boost. It regulates very well. I used 99 cent windshield washer fluid, and just straight water when warm enough. Straight water will freeze close to 32 fahrenheit and not flow. Power actually felt better with straight H2O in warm weather.

Fuel economy did not increase for me. That may be because my chips were already maxing my timing. One of the most noticeable benefits of being able to have it start around 2 psi is that it almost completely cleans up tailpipe smoke! If i ever saw black, i knew that i had run out and needed to refill the tank. If i ever saw smoke at all with water, it would be a grayish colored smoke and clean up immediately.

If you run biodiesel, SVO, or WVO, the only downfall is that NOx is increased. Water/methanol injection is supposed to reduce that greenhouse emission. I have not tested this, but i can testify to an amazingly cleaner burn out the tailpipe.

Perhaps propane will net more mpg but i don't think it will burn much cleaner. Propane would probably make more power but from what i hear, propane can raise EGTs and increase pollutants. I wasn't crazy about having to search for propane, mess with DOT tanks, or having propane under my seat. Water is free and non-flammable, though methanol obviously is. Definitely less expensive. The kit can also be used on gas engines like it was on fighter planes in its early days. I very much like water/methanol injection, one of my favorite mods.

-Also, my pump failed after a little over a year. They said only 3 or 4 had ever failed. They sent me a new pump immediately, no questions asked.

Good to hear. From what I'm told, my EGT's aren't bad right now. Worst I see is around 1300 or so if I hammer it. But there's more bombs in my future, so water/meth will come in handy next year. :)

Just got the head back from the valve bending trial and everything looked fine... ... . (valve bending was from a broken cam) Me personally, I won't give my Snow System up!

Jim

Got mine installed and runs a lot smoother. Sure drinks the juice up fast. I think I need a bigger resivour now. But it runs a bit quicker and cools better on the top end too.
