I live close to the border in San Diego. Can anyone answer two questions for me:

Is Mexican diesel OK to use in our CTD's?

How much is it selling for?

If you can get diesel in Mexico, go for it. Can't agree with you on the Jane Fonda thing because I like her.

I've run hundreds of gallons of Pemex through my 99 with no problem. Lots of nice sulfur in it. $1. 66 as of last May. My friend just returned from a surf trip in his new Sprinter and claimed he got 20 gallons for $35. 00. Miss Fonda is very popular in Vietnam.

Best stuff around. Just don't sniff the fumes, lots of sulfur... . 50 american per liter in Mexicali... times 3. 78 is about 1. 89 per gallon. .

You already ran it in your truck the day you bought it. I can't beleive that they would import diesel fuel when it was built (in Mexico) and they usually have about 5-10 gallons when they get shipped. Then, if you had a good dealer, they filled it up the rest of the way when you signed the papers

HA! I bought mine from Maroone! They GAVE me NOTHING! And then screwed me by selling my contract to a bankafter telling me they'd hold my contract for two days while I secured the cash! Cost me a $150 fee to pay off the bank! NEVER EVER DEAL WITH MAROONE!

Lots of folks do. Saturday morning at the Algadones crossing by Yuma, there is a line of trucks waiting for the border to open. However, even though the running qualities are superior to US diesel, there is lots more water and dirt in it. You MUST carry a spare fuel filter, and have a pre-filter. I get fuel in San Felipe (120 gallons of Diesel SIN for $225. 00 US) on the way home, i drain the water in Yuma and again in Phoenix, I have a FASS and get 1/3 to 1/2 cup each drain. At home I drain it once a week, and get just a couple of tea spoons each time. . 120 gal. lasts me 2000 mi +.

I use about 165gal/mo. running mexico fuel at the price paid above would save me $200 a month, why is mexico fuel nearly a buck cheaper than red fuel here in the US??

Mexican government sets price for all stations in BAJA, don't know about the rest of Mexico. The price of fuel has nothing to do with the value of the product on the open market. Baically only commercial vehicles use desiel in Mexico. Desiel has been cheaper than US for a number of years.

Price of Gas is less than U. S. now, but for the past few years it was above the price in US. In fact they were setting price near the border, 10 miles or so, down to California price to reduce Mexican traffic across border to fill up and in many cases bring back extra fuel in unsafe containers.

Even though I live all the way up in santa barbara- this thread has me thinking of a big aux tank, and weekend excursions southward. Does anybody know if there is affordable fuel near the border crossing on state hwy 909 (east of the san ysidro crossing)?

Heck, the illegal aliens are all moving up here, wouldn't it be a hoot if Millions of Dodge/Cummins owners all moved to Mexico! Ha!

Anyway, this is a great thread and has got me thinking about taking a trip south of the border also.

filter-funnel

Some of the marine supply houses sell filter-funnels. There are 2 sizes that I am aware of. One was named the Baja Filter, advertised to keep out a lot of the dirt, rocks, etc.

Good thread fellas. I go down to Baja all the time and load up on diesel fuel. I was in San Felipe in late July and filled up the tanks for @ $2. 03/gallon.

My aftermarket main tank is good for 65 gallons, and the fuel caddy is good for another 110 gallons. Thanks a 175 gallons of fuel @ $2. 03/gallon.

I don't really save any money, the cheap fuel offsets the trip itself.

$2. 03/gallon includes the tip I gave to the kid who fills up your tanks.

We might as well put Mexican diesel in our Mexican trucks. At least our trucks will feel right at home. Do you think we can bring back Mexican beer too?

Read this:

http://www.kpho.com/Global/story.asp?S=3932699

(CBS 5 News) Some Arizonans are finding a way to beat high gas prices in our state - They're filling their tanks across the border.

Today gas prices in the valley are averaging $2. 91 a gallon. Closer to the border prices are around $2. 80, but in Mexican border towns, you'll pay about 50 cents less.

One gas station cashier on the Mexican side of the border says he's seeing a 30-percent increase in Arizona plates using his pumps.

Just make sure there are no guns, gun parts or bullets of any kind in your truck when you go. Lots of jail time for that down in Mexico.

So. . is the general consensus that a pre filter is needed? Sounds like water is an issue, and more frequent filter changes as well. It sounds like the higher sulfur isn't a problem for the engine (just the environment). I think I'm gonna take a drive down to Tecate and fill up this weekend. Anyone know the price for diesel in Tiajuana/Tecate?

Thanks for all the input!

Anybody have problems with quantity?
As in limiting the quantity you pump.

Thanks for all the informative replies - sounds like filter going in,
and transfer -with filter- to main tank would be best.
