did anyone hear on the news about the country that was willing to sell the US all the gas and fuel they wanted for . 12 cents a gallon, im thinking it was Venenzuala i think. . guess what the US said no!!! imagine that ****. darn shame i don't have a tanker ship :-laf

That has to be fooey. Venenzuala has got some problems and probably could care less about us, I could see Kuwait selling it to us for that cheap after what we did for them but they already GAVE us 150 million barrels. Ofcourse I could be wrong, I just cant imagine it :)
 
Yes, it was Venezuela that offered the U. S. cheap fuel. However, Hugo Chavez, Venezuelas president, had some interesting trade ideas he wanted to impose on the U. S. in exchange for the cheap fuel. Venezuela happens to be the #4 oil producing country on the American continent, and Venezuelan crude oil is highly sought fuel.
 
I know what their position is, figured it had to be something with strings attached instead of from their good graces.
 
For alot of us that were there, It's time to move on. And this doesn't have a damned thing to do with Mexican Diesel, does it?!

I just fueled up in Baja California on Monday.

$2. 11/gallon for diesel, that includes the dollar/peso conversion of . 07 cents and the $2 bucks I gave the kid who fueled the truck up.
 
I was in Baja in September and filled up several times for about $1. 80 a gallon. I've been driving down there for years. No problems running diesel.



It's funny. I used to drive a gasser and I would fill up on our side of the border because it was cheaper and gasoline is better in the states. Now, however, I basically run as low as I can until I get to Mexico and then I fill up in Mexico. I also fill up before I leave Mexico. I was paying about $1. 80 in Mexico and then $3. 20 in California.
 
I wonder what the gallon limit would be before the feds would get upset/involved/charge fee's for bringing diesel back. I'm sure filling your tanks is no problem (yet) but if someone took a pure fuel tank down there to fill (say 200 or 300 gallons) I wonder how the conversation at the border would go :-laf
 
Be, Careful of fuel in Mexico. I live close to the border and used to go there for fillups. Fuel is significantly cheaper, figured I was paying 1. 60 - 1. 70 per gallon. Didn't notice any difference in performance, it ran fine. Check with the injector shops in San Diego, advanced diesel performance, omega fuel injection, etc. The shops see the damage it does to fuel system parts. It has a high sulpher and water content. It corroded and pitted the injectors and pump in my 3rd generation. Was told by one of the shops that US fuel has a low sulpher content which can affect lubrication. If you were to fuel up in Mexico recommend you mix with the US low sulpher fuel, add more filters, water separator and an additive to the tank.

Getting back to one of the orginal questions in the post. The high sulfur content of Mexican diesel will damage your catalytic converter. The reason for the ULSD in the U. S. was to allow manufacturers to use catalytic converters to meet emissions standards.



In time, widespread emissions testing of diesels will come. Do you want to take a chance on having to prematurely replace and expensive converter? If you burn enough cheap fuel perhaps it won't matter as you'll be money ahead.



I'm not surprised to hear about injector problems. Most Mexican trucks are still using mechanical injection systems, and those that are using electronic systems are not using the common rail system. I think our common rail injectors are much more sensative to fuel contaminates.



I've used a fair bit of Mexican diesel in my 1G and 2G CTD's, but I'd be cautious about using a lot in the 3G's.
 
I read that Venezuela gave the US several million gallons, to be distributed at Conoco-Phillips 66 stations (Owned by the Venezuela government!). Shouldn't that have dropped gas prices???



And Diesel is now $1. 27 higher than gas! I voted for George Bush, but I'm now regretting it. He has done NOTHING to help this matter, and wait till these prices hit the supermarket!

you are right jwduke. IMO gasoline got too high for many people, and they (oil co. ) were not getting the same revenues (20 billion instead of 40 billion) , some folks changed their driving habits, the oil co. recognized this, so they lowered the price. They can still stick it to the diesel folks because, like you say, it gets passed on to the consumer, at the retail stores, and no one notices except the small minority of us that choose to drive diesel trucks non comercially and eat the inflated cost over gas. They figure, no threat. What a joke, diesel is cheaper to refine. Give me a break, this year China desides to need more petoleum products than last year, what a line... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ..... sorry for the rant, 70's all over again "Energy crisis" yah right... ... ... out ... ... ... ... ... ..... ran a vessel with EMD's in Mexico years ago and we were continually servicing the centrafuge two to three times as much as when we ran state side... . that was years ago, but one thing about Mexico. . not much changes
