Comparing cargo trailers

Fl 80

Hi out there,

My 1997 Holiday Rambler 29 ft. alumalite travel trailer with two 5,000 lb. axles has had all four wheel hubs inhabited with mice. They have chewed up all the mag break wires. The wires ground out and guess what. NO BREAKS . I guess I need to travel more with the trailer so they wont feel at home . Well sometimes thats not possible. Does anyone know of some kind of spray maybe that the telephone lineman use to keep critters out of those little green boxes you see along the road ?

Any suggestions will be taken seriously.

Thanks,

Al

i work for the telephone co on those little green boxes they keep us in business fixing the trouble that they create. we as repairmen like them there. but try to put a circle of hydrated lime around your whole trailer they will not cross the lime works in our sheds that we keeep atvs stored in

Those fabric softener thingies you throw in the dryer... . Bounty, Bounce, etc.

Mice don't like 'em. I use them in my engine compartments when the mice are active. Doesn't take very many, and the "fragrance" lasts a few weeks.

I have had two incindents of pack rats building nests in my air filter box. This can create havoc if not caught quickly.

I caught myself watching that lame RV show on TV the other day. The gal said if you sprinkle a circle of Comet around your tires, the critters won't cross.

As far as mice problems, I got a couple a cats. They wiped out everything that moved. I wasn't a cat person before, but now I'm a believer. :D

Oh yeah they will. I broke in my kittens with family of lil' bastages that terrorized my downstairs for a week. Heck now moths , mosquitos , bees , gnats , ants, and aunt tille know better then to make any sudden movements when they are arround.

I also heard Vics vapo rub jell applied to wires and wire loom is a big stay away sign for them too.

Mice in Hubs

FWIW, If it were me, I'd also check to see how they are getting inside the Hubs/Brake housings! Are you missing some parts that permit an opening on your backing plates? Check for the rubber plugs that seal up the brake adjusting (oval) hole at the bottom center of each brake backing plate. The rubber plugs are cheap and available at any automotive supply store. That's my 2 cents...

I just brought my 1981 24' Wilderness out of inside storage from my shop. It was there on blocks since we used it last 12 years ago! No problems except 12 years of dust! Now with my new CTD the Wilderness will be making a lot of trips out of town! Oo.

Good luck!

John :)

mice in the wheel hubs,

Hi Again,

As to reply to my problem with the mice in the wheel hubs, some engineer thought that if they flared the backing plate on the wheels it would let cool air in as you went down the road. Well when you aint going down the road and the r. v. is stored over the winter, thats when the little critters build the nest. Well my cat get's mad when she has to stand in the snow and guard my wheels all winter long and I don't know if moth balls would do any good laying in the snow. I sure don't want to put anything foreign in the wheel hubs. I just had the wheel bearings packed and don't want to pull the wheels off again when next years camping season starts.

Thank,s Again,

Al
