So maybe it aint the right forumn BUT my truck is in jeprody and I need your help.

I just went out to the garage to tuck him in for the night and I lifted the hood and 2 mice were were haulin butt across the Cummins and 1 more came crawling out from under the hood insul blanket, I pulled the corner of the blanket and they had a nest in there ... ... ... ... . looks as if a whole tribe been livin there.

I keep the truck in the garage but I guess they get in under the door or something, I wll trap em till no end but... ..... is there anything I can do to keep them away from the truck    ... ... ... ... ... ... help, Kevin

Whitmore,

From what I have heard is that there are two things that you can try. One of them is an electronic device that hooks into your battery. It sends out a high pitched signal that is supposed to scare them away. I think that can be found in a JC Whitney catalog. The other is mothballs. Place the mothballs around various points on the truck where those little *******s can get in the truck.

I hope this helps.

Dryer, Fabric softener.....

Buy a couple of boxes of Bounty or Bounce..... those fabric softener thingies you throw in the dryer. Cram 8-10 of them around battery boxes, under the hood insulation... . other places where no worries for heat. The aroma wears off in a couple of weeks... . just keep replacing as needed. This has worked for me with two vehicles they try to take over every year. I also put out bait where my animals can't get to it, in the general area. Works for me.

Bounce also works for me but has lasted a couple of months, could be the dry climate here. If the rodents have been in there a lot check your airbox, it's their favorite place. I lost power real bad once, popped open the airbox and it was entirely stuffed full of underhood insulation and walnuts. They also took the insulation off the grid heater wires.

Kevin, you may want to take rodents into consideration when designing your new intake system.

Mice, a real problem. How bout a bigger one called a squirrel. I took one down the road once and saw him fall out. The air box? I had so many acorns in there all I needed was a little dirt and oak trees would have pushed the hood open. I put screen over the opening to the air box and that stopped that. Now I have the AFE filter and no hidding place. I got um.

. . Preston. .

Getting a cat is a good idea. You won't have mouse or squirrel problems. Between the bounce and the cat you should not have a problem. You can feed the cat, they just like to kill mice. Kinda like we like to drive our trucks.

Thing I don't like about cats is muddy foot prints all over the windshield. Ever seen what happens to your paint job when a dog "trees" at cat on your roof?

I had some mice to build a nest in the glove box and trunk in my Town Car this summer. I put a tray of Decon in the car and that did it.

I use mothballs in my GTO when it's in storage and that seems to work for me. I put them in a few places in the engine compartment and inside the bottom of each of the wheels (since that's where the climb up to get into the car). Don't like putting them in the interior because I can't stand the smell of mothballs.

NO POISON!! Had mice in my last garage and I put some D-con out. The mice ate it and returned to my 95 Mercury Cougar to die. Never could find the stupid thing, but trust me you could smell it. Nothing worse than opening a hot car to the smell of decomposing rodent. I tried everything to get the smell out, but you could always get a faint smell of it.

Finally traded it off for a 2000 Dodge Intrepid ES, with every option but a sunroof. The new car smell was much better than dead mouse!!

The dryer sheets get my vote, we have used them for years in combines and tractors during the winter season. :D

if they have been ther for a while look at your wiring and rubber pieces . they seem to like them. look for exposed wire(no insulation), vaccum hoses and washer hoses eaten. as stated before don`t use poison. if it gets inside it will work on you to!!!!!

Kev, stuff a cat under the hood someplace. Feed him daily if he doesn't have mouse breath. :D

Yeah! Just don't forget to get the cat out from under it before starting:eek:

I also hate cat footy prints on my vehicles.

I had a mouse die in the console of my wife's BMW 740il. She came home one day and said there is a funny smell in the car. One whiff and I knew I had a dead body somewhere. I had to tear the dash and console out to get it.

How's this for dealer service? A co-worker's husband had a dead mouse removed from the vent system of his two week old gasser 2500, warranty covered it!

I feel your pain. I had my truck taken over by those *&#@ Texas crazy ants. What a great design for a cupholder DC came up with for that year. They were all up in the dash, under and in the seats, and under my shifter boot. I had to bomb (not the good bomb) the inside, used enough to cover a 50' x 50' x 18' room. Talk about overwhelm by force, I killed stuff I didn't even know was in there :D . Hope everything works out.

As loud as these trucks are I wouldn't think you would have a mouse problem if you drove your truck everyday? (I didn't last year, I live in the country but drive my truck everyday, plus neighbor has a cat) But just in-case I took the advice and stuffed some fabric softener sheets under the hood insulation and by the battery and in the cab of my truck. Smells real nice, now I can go ahead and cook though pinto beans tonight and see how well the dryer sheets really work for odor preventing as well as the mouse deterrent :D
