Michelin LTX tires?

Michelin LTX "MS" tires?

Who's ran these tires and how did/do you like them? How do they handle in wet and snowy conditions? Thanks...

I had LTX M/S from the factory on my 02. They were pretty slippery in the rain, and especially poor in deep snow. They did look like they were on track to last a really long time, but I replaced them with BFGs after getting stuck in some embarassingly light snow.

I have 93k miles on the original LTX's and it looks like i will get 100k out of them. Not the best traction when facing the elements, but a long lasting tire. If I could get a larger and and little more aggresive LTX tire that lasted this long would be great.

My only experience with LTX's was when I had three tires slashed on a saturday night and needed new tires sunday morning and the only tire shop open a block away had them. I drove in the lot on three flat tires and one good one, in the middle of winter on 4 inches of fresh snow. They put the LTX's and I had to use 4x4 to get out of the parking lot, non the less they didn't stay on my truck for more than a day or two.

I've run several sets of Michelin LTX-M/S on different trucks. They ride great, last a long time and I got surprisingly good traction on snow and ice WHEN THEY ARE NEW. I put a set on just at the start of winter a couple of winters ago and they worked great that winter, better than some LTX A/T's I'd tried the year before. The next winter after 40K miles of wear I might as well have been on slicks. They also offer no off-road traction. I've been stuck on wet grass with my 2WD open rear-end. After @ 1/2 wore out they don't do well on wet pavement either. They last well, I've gotten anywhere from 75K to 100K miles out of them.



All that said, if you run pavement only, no snow and ice unless they're new, they're a great tire.

I do not believe Michelin M/S come in 17's only 16's. I had the M/S on my 2001 and they were pretty good in the ice and snow. Like all Michelin's they can go for many miles. That being said I had the Michelin AT's on my 2005 stock and after two winters and only 30,000 miles I got rid of them. They do not stick at all in the ice and snow. I went to 285 Toyo AT's much more aggressive tread and they are doing well in the white stuff. I won't get the miles out of these like the Michelin's but I don't have to worry about sliding all over this winter.

I agree with all the above. I've had 2 sets of Michelin LTX/MS on my 02 Ram. They wore VERY well but, that being said, were ill suited for the snow conditions in the Sierra Nevada. Switched last year to Goodyear Wrangler (w/ Silent Armour Technology).



The latter rated for heavy snow conditions. So far they have lived up to their "hype. "

I had a set of "MS" on my '02 that worked great for me in the Sierra's and on the snow and ice. I'm on my second set of "AS" on my '04. 5 and this is my third winter with them and I have no problems with them at all for a stock tire. I only got about 40K miles out of the first set, but I am hard on tires. It all depends on how you drive and where you go with them. The "AS" will not get you as far as some of the others mentioned no matter how you drive.

My truck came from the factory with LTX A/S's. They wear like iron but are horrible in the snow, ice, rain and mud. I can't find the M/S in 17 so I will be switching to Cooper ST's I think.

Well I'm going to be in (SW) New Mexico and so I'll just avoid using my rig in the snow. I've been in the Navy for 7 years and have a 77 GMC Serra with a "BRAND NEW" 350 crate motor waiting for me, so I'll just get that going... I did order the Michelin's through Discount Tire. The most important thing to me was tread life, but if I do happen to get in some slick stuff want to be able to get out of it... Thanks

I think they are available in 17", but only in load range D. Maybe it was only P rated that I saw.

Michelin LTX tires

I have an '03 and just put my second set of LTX A/S on. The first set lasted 128k miles. I hope the second set do as well.



Not sure about the above comments about poor traction in rain and snow. Maybe I don't know what I'm missing. I have a limited slip rear end and when required, I put it into 4WD.

I just replaced 4 Michelin LTX/MS 285/75/16 tires w/23,000mi out of 40,000mi warrenty from Discount Tires. They rotated my tires every 6,000mi and said the tire wear each time was doing great and that I should expect to get 40,000mi out of them. HELLO! After 16 months last week amd 23,ooo miles I only had 4/32" tread remaining and Discount Tire only wanted to replace with the same tire and I said forget it, I'm not going to put this tire back on my truck. I'm not hard on the tires and take very good care and check tire pressure 1-2 times per month.



On dry roads they were very good but in snow not so great. In fact, last winter I made a left turn in a mountain neighborhood at about 5mph and still slid off the right side of the road into the ditch. :{

Just glad I had a winch on the front to pull myself out. That's why I have a winch in the first place.



I now have 5 new PROCOMP All Terrain 265/75/16 from 4Wheelparts Performance Centers. I shopped around and could not do better than buy 4 and get the 5th free.



I know they have new tread but they are so much better than the Michelin's when they where new.



I don't have to use 4x4 as much now.

Thanks for the heads up. . Are the Pro Comp tires load range E? I ran Pro Comp tires on my 4x4 Tacoma and the were great... I like Pro Comp and Big O tires both as far as tread life goes...
