Due to sidewall damage on a Michelin 265/75R16 LTX A/S I had to replace a tire. The A/S is no longer available so I ended up buying 2 A/T's.

Apart from the fact the A/S's are useless in snow and a bit dodgy in the rain they wear extremely well. I estimate I would have got about 65,000 miles out of the set.

I put the 2 A/T's on the front for now and the steering feels a bit lighter than it did before.

My question to those who have run these tires, what kind of mileage can I expect and how do they compare to the A/S's?

I should note that towing accounts for better than 50%

Thanks,

Richard

I would get the old A/S's off the rear and go with A/T's all around. The two very different tread patterns might get you killed in the rain or snow. The A/T's will wear very well. My Nephew has a set and they are good looking and do well in the snow and rain.

Michelin A/Ts

I have had a set of Michelin A/Ts on my truck since last Fall and love the. My truck came with Michelin A/S's, and although they lasted a long time, they were never very good in snow.

I have observed that the ride is a little harder with the A/Ts than the A/S's, but it was worth it for the much improved Winter performance.

I'd go with them again in a heatbeat!

Well, after I posted this a. m. I went out and had a closer look at those tires and find that they are load range C not E as I had thought (or ordered for that matter). Boy do I feel a stupe for not checking when the guy was installing them!! Now the store is going to check with Michelin to see what replaces the A/S and order those for me.

RT66DOC - The tires are made in N. A. but if it helps I've given up buying French wine, still drink it though when offered. :D :D

Thanks for your replies guys!

The A/S is no longer available . . .

You might get a second opinion. The Michelin site and the Costco site both list Michelin 265/75R16 LTX A/S load range E tires. Both sites also show the same size/load range Michelins in the LTX M/S and X®Radial LT styles. The A/T, as you found out, is only load range C in the 265/75R16 LTX tire.

The Michelin site allows you to compare characteristics (traction, wear, noise, etc. ) of up to four of their tires. I have the M/S tires in load range E. My only complaint is that they're only available with ORWL.

Good luck!

Richard, check the tirerack they carry the A/S in load range E. Looks like the A/T in the 265 size only comes in C. Your tire dealer doesn't know what he is talking about. 265/75/16 is still available in the A/S load range E for less money then the A/T's in the load range C. I know that you know that load range C is not compatible with your 3/4 ton truck and that the tire dealer should never install a load range C tire on your truck even if you told them too. It is dangerous. Good luck and let us know what they do to fix their screwup. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Compa...6LTXOWL_=4&compareList=5&qty_675R6LTXATOWL_=4

Don't feel alone. I did exactly the same thing. I bought the A/Ts in North Carolina and didn't even think about the load range until I got home to Washington. Although I have to admit, I'm happy with them. I now have about 25,000 miles on the A/Ts and they look like they will go at least another 25,000. I pull a 5th wheel and we are right at max load but no problems so far. WIll I buy the A/Ts again - mostly likely not only because I want load range E.

So, don't beat yourself up too bad - I suspect you have lots of company.

I have a set of 5 OEM practically new (about 750 miles) Michelin 265-75R 16 A/S's I have that I am selling. I mounted larger tires. $500 for the 5 of them. They road nice and were very quiet, but I wanted a larger tire to fill up the tire well more. Wish somebody made a larger tire than this in load range E 10 ply.
