Michelin X LT

These are only sold through Sams Club and Costco. They are rated better than the LTX/MS and all of the other Michelin tires on Michelins own website. Anybody run these and how did they do in snow? I have a 3500 so snow is tough.

My read of the Michelin site shows the LTX/MS rated better—barely

Thomas you are right the are rated the same except for quiet ride and the LTX/MS is a "9" and the X's are "8". Not a problem with the CTD . I owned the LTX/MS's on another 3500 CTD 4x4 and they did not wear that well and the were not good in the snow. Wondering if these are better???

Just checking my options, I have to admit that at Sam's club I looked at the XPS Tractions next to the X's and the XPS tires were twice as heavy. So your saying they are good for 60K miles on a dually? If that is the case then the cost per mile on the XPS Tractions would be better. Plus they look great. Just need the right story for the old ball and chain I can tell you that I have looked at every brand of tire and I do feel the best about the XPS Traction tire.

PB. . the truck [98. 5] that I totaled had 60K on them and this set on the '01 will go every bit of that probably more... . and I drive it like a slot car in the mountains that I live in, just think what milage I would get on flater and less twisty roads.

Michelin XPS

We put the LT235/85R-16E XPS Ribs on our 13,500 lb 5ver. We could pull off the Interstate, stop to check the tires and feel heat radiating from the 5ver's original Goodyear Wrangler HT's. With the all steel XPS Ribs, I can put my hand on the tread!

I would say that these tires are 2 times as heavy as other "E" rated tires

XPS Traction, 80k on each of two sets. Only 1 flat out of twelve tires. I would haul heavy alot and they just kept goin'.

So how many miles, if you were a betting man will the Goodyears that came on my 3500 last?

The OEM Goodyears on my 96 3500 were gone at 35,000 miles. The ones on the 2002 still look OK at 15,000, but it's too soon to tell insofar as ultimate tread life is concerned.

The original tires (Goodyear's) on my truck went about 30,000 miles, then I bought a set Michelin's from Cost-co and I believe they are the X Radial LT's. I'm on the third set now, so for me they last about 100,000 plus miles The LTX/MS has the same tread wear rating so they should last quite well.



We don't get a lot of snow here but the times that we have the X's worked good for me. I had a set of XPS Ribs on a old Suburban and they work good too, although more expensive.

I went by Sam's Club today and got a XPS Rib (they don't stock the Traction's) off the shelf and the Michelin X LT off the shelf in the 235/85/16 E size. Wow I thought the XPS were heavier but man they are at least twice as heavy (must be that all steel construction) What does that heavier tire with that additional unsprung weight do to the ride/handling of the truck? I do have the Bilsteins on my truck that should help with the weight of the XPS Tractions (which I am sure are even heavier than the Ribs).

I know you're looking at a truck application, but we bought the XPS Ribs for the 5th wheel to minimize, if not eliminate, the possibility of tread separation that is endemic to the fabric/steel LT-type tires used for this highly loaded application (the tires on our 5ver run at 90% of rated load). If I can run 70-75 MPH on the Interstate in the summer and the tire runs cool enough that I can put my hand on the tread, I could care less about unsprung weight.



As I said, your application is different than mine, so you might notice a difference in handling and ride due to the increased unsprung weight of the XPS.

I like your take on the XPS Rib, I've also heard of bad stories on trailer tires lately. If I was in need of trailer tires I belive I would do the same thing, those ribs are tough tires... . especially in the desert

I finally upgraded to the XPS tractions about two months ago. It seemed like they took some miles to take a "set" and the ride is a bit more "clunky". They handle well though and I like the look.

Where is the best price on the XPS Tractions? Sam's Club wants $178 per tire It will end up costing $200 per tire after taxes and mounting and balancing. That's $1200 for shoes for my baby
