Okay the reason im posting on this is the fact that my order from Genos has not arrived as of today, i called tuesday or wed, and they were waiting on the air filter as they were on back order, the guy checked said those were in, okay i recieved an invoice by email the next morning just a little after 8am.

My question is i know have a complete oil free engine with a Microguard filter sitting in the front seat, i purchased it as i wasn't sure when my filters would come, this morning i figured those should be here today, well they are not...

Is the MicroGuard filter (diesel) okay to use?

Is MicroGuard the brand? Where did you purchase it? I'd return it if it were me. I only use the highest quality filters. Fleetguard being top, followed by a Baldwin, although since www.scheiddiesel.com is in town, I've always used Fleetguard. For future reference, check out Scheid's price on Fleetguard filters.

Supposed to wait til your filter supply is in before you drain your oil :-laf .

I always have filters on hand but since this is the 12v i didn't, i ordered from genos on 12/2 well filters aren't here yet so im going to wait until the very last today before work to see if they arrive by ups. my reason for draining the oil is i have no idea how long its been in there and im anal about the oil changes on my '00 so it got the best of me thinking that 3 days after calling genos and them leaving me a email that my filters would be here today, i have never had a problem with them so im guessing its the delivery company

ahhhh well then im in business then, i happen to have an extra 24V filter... . the 12V had a fram on it so..... guess what, i called the auto store and you are correct the fram filter that fits the 24V which was on the 12V are the same so guess what, i have a stratapor for the other truck in the box... . Oo.

Thanks

You're welcome. You can use oil filters up to at least 03's last I checked. I don't know if Cummins changed them 03-06. Just don't use Fram:eek: filters.

Yep the filter worked went right on with no problems... I never thought to cross reference the fram with the fram filter that i used for over 2yrs on the 24V, i never had a problem with them at all actually i may have gotten lucky and was getting the good batch instead of the ones that were faulty. And if something had happened guess what the dealership would have been taken to court because i was never told about the filters that were approved for the Cummins engine, glad that didn't happen and my engine is fine.

If it had not been for signing up with the TDR i would probably still be using Fram filters, thank goodness for the informed cause thats when i switched to the stratapor filters.

just for future reference, my wife works at o'reillys and microguard is thier house brand (read cheap). it's probably made by fram, but it's definitly someones second line filter. i use wix on everything-even lawnmower- but i get a pretty good deal :)

thats where i got it, it didn't go on, another member lead me in the direction that the 24V filters(oil) will fit the 12V engines, just so happens i happened to have a extra stratapor for the 24V in the box. . guess what the 12V got, hopefully the rest of my filters will show today, i want to get that fuel filter changed out.

also, for those inquiring minds in here, napa gold and silver filters are wix. same part# with an extra digit added for napa. and so ya'll know, buying factory ain't better. chrysler puts out a bid when they need filters, goes to the cheapest that can build them to thier specs. ain't riskin my engine on stuff built by the lowest bidder. ;)

Correct on the Napa filters, but the MOPAR filters that Cummins puts on the engines, are made by FLEETGUARD.

I do agree, don't use el cheapo filters. If I can't get my hands on Fleetguard, although one should have plenty in stock since they are readily available online, next up would be a Baldwin, then a Wix. Anything less, is.

I use Napa gold on my gassers.

I actually knew that... NAPA gold are always my first choice for filters for the boat generator, lawn tractor, etc.

Fleetguard for the Cummins though... . I've also been using the Stratopore lately

sorry to misinform, didn't know the mopar diesel filter was fleetguard, must just be the 090 and 024 gasser filter that are sourced to the cheapest bid. got the info from a chrysler field rep a few years back but they're not always the most knowledgable source, unless they're trying to deny warranty, then they know it all

well me being new to the 12V, i didn't know the 24V filter for my '00 would fit it, as i did have one on hand, the Microguard never went on the truck so its going back to the store, actually the Microguard filter seems to be as heavy as the fleetguard filter, now whats on the inside i couldn't tell ya, might have to do a cut away section one day just for a good thread and alot of talk LOL. .

For what it's worth, I used Fleetguard for the first few changes on mine, but I've since switched to Napa Gold. I get an unbelievable price through work, and we use them on all of our engines so I feel safe.

Travis. .
