Any know the micron rating for the stock FS1232 fuel filter? Or have one laying around and can look and see if it says it on the outside? I out of stock right now, and the ones on my trucks are turned to where I can't see the writing.

Just looked at one, no micron information. Are you trying to decide on an aftermarket filter(s) for your fuel system? Scheid may be able to help?

Well I'm just wanting to know for the heck of it and to compare. The FS1000 I will use has a 10 micron rating. Scheid will try to sell me a FASS unit:rolleyes:.

I take it a FS1000 is also a fleetgard? Aren't there primary and secondary fuel filters for some diesels? I remember servicing International DT466 equipped trucks at the beer distributorship I worked at and they had a primary and secondary filter, one was larger than the other. That is the only reason I can think why fleetgards may have different micron ratings. I know when building a gas fuel system for EFI they take 10 micron, diesel may be different.

Yes and yes.

From what I've researched some guys build their fuel systems with a FF - fuel filter and a FS - fuel/water separator. They'll use a 10 micron FS, and a 2 or 3 micron FF. I think one FS will be ok for what I want to do. Besides, that gets expensive buying two remote filter mounts, then having to replace two filters each time.

The OEM filter is 10 micron. This is carried over to the new trucks as well however a new micron rating has just been introduced for the ISB and later models. I think it is 8?

From what I understand, all the brand part numbers I have are all 10.

Baldwin/Case/Fleetguard/NAPA/Wix/etc.

Most of the engine mounted filters on any diesel I've worked on were 10 micron. That includes lots of marine diesels that are notorious for receiving crap fuel... . they can accept a 10 micron particle.

Some will not run well for long if you try to filter too finely... . the lift pumps can't pull thru them.

I know. I'm working thru that now.

I suspect the stock filter is 10 micron as well. Could send an e-mail to Fleetguard.

Emailed Fleetguard/Cummins Filtration as it's called now. I asked them for micron rating on FS1000, FS1232, and FS1221 - (7" vs. ~4" FS1232 filter, longer, fits the 1st gen filter mount, has no provision for the water in fuel sensor, just has a drain. ) FS1221 is what I'm gonna use on the crew since I won't be using a WIF sensor, looks cooler, bigger, and I've heard bigger is better  . This was their response:

Hello Mr. Gilbert

Thank you for contacting Cummins Filtration.

The FS1000 is a 10 micron filter at 98. 7 % efficiency. The FS1232 is a

25 micron filter at 98. 7 % efficiency. The FS1221 is a 22 micron filter at

98 % efficiency.
