My wife needed Office 2003 standard edition on one her computers at work so she went to Best Buy and bought a copy. She did not realize it was a upgrade until she tried to install it and it would not let her. So I was tasked with taking back the upgrade, getting the full version and installing it. I went back to Besy Buy and after waiting 10 minutes in the return line, there was no one in line in front of me but the woman was busy doing something else, I was informed it could not be returned as it was open. The return clerk was then kind enough to point out that the return policy was clearly written on the back of the reciept. I explained I wanted purchase the full version, did not matter. I walked away, although I was on the verge of a meltdown. I stopped and started reading the Office 2003 box, suitable upgrade packages included Microsoft Works 7. 0 (current version). So I went back to the isle with the Microsoft stuff and there is was, the cost was $45 and it had a rebate of $15 so really it was $30. The cost of the Office 2003 upgrade was $239, the cost of the full version was $430!!. So I bought the Works 7. 0 not really believing it would work but it was worth a try. I installed Works and then Office and went without a hitch!! So I got Office 2003 standard for $270. I had to laugh in the end as I was ****** at Best Buy's return policy but it ended up saving my wife $160. So if you need Office 2003 this is a cool way to save a few bucks.

Best Buy's return policy blows. I bought a camcorder from them about 2 years ago. It was a JVC something or other, top-of-the-line at that time. Fully digital, etc, etc. Problem was, it wouldnt take good video inside. It worked fine outside, and even decent in the store with their flourescent lights, but in the house with regular lights it didn't work well.

I wanted to exchange it for a different camcorder, but they wanted something like 20% for a restocking fee. The dumbest part of the whole thing was that if it was broken, then they would swap it right out, but if it worked then I had to pay the restocking fee.

Their policies are written by morons and I'll pay more for the same item just to stay out of their stores.

The non-return policy on video cameras is probably to keep people from buying one to film a graduation or wedding, and then return it when they are done. For a purchase like that, it's probably best to go to a speciality electronics store that has a money back satisifaction garantee.

You know, I could understand a "no returns without a restocking fee" policy, but I didn't want to straight out return it, I wanted to exchange it for another one that they had on the shelf.

It was just really annoying and never did get resolved to my satisfaction.

Oh well, live and learn...
