Messenger v4. 6 ???

Can anyone dummy this up for the non computer types out there?

I've been getting this warning for a while now, and I have not been downloading it, but the pop up is getting annoying.

My virus program didnt detect anything, but I'm still suspicious.

I've also been getting "microsoft updates" popping up on my toolbar. I didnt install them either.

Am I just being paranoid?

Eric

Did you install the critical updates notifier from the windows update site? This will cause a little message in the systems tray in the lower right corner of your computer screen when a new update comes out from Microsoft. I keep all my computers updated for security reasons. Go to the windows update site and download all the critical updates.

"Messenger v4. 6 ???"

This is a new version of Microsoft Messenger. If you download it it will stop bugging you.

Thanks guys.

I've heard of virus's masquerading(sp?) as certified Microsoft stuff, so I've been a little leary of everything latley.

I've also had modem problems (slow dialups and eventually the puter didnt detect the modem) and had to pull the modem, and let the system reload it (proper terminology?) so this has also been making me unwilling to change anything.

Head on over to

http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and start following the directions. This will get your windows system updated to the latest and greatest with both product and security updates. All windows users should use it and visit there on a regular basis. If they did 90% of the "virii" and worms in the wild would be nonexistant.

Since you're on a modem you might want to start it before hittin the sack as the updates can be large.

Good Luck,

Andrew

P. S. I think thats the address, but M$ doesnt like users on FreeBSD using mozilla as their browser looking at their site :)
