Ordering new trailer, "spread axles?" what do you think

MY WIFE AND I ARE THINKING OF A 5TH WHEEL. WE LIKED THE SILVER-BACK 35L4QB ($50-$55k)ALSO WE LIKED THE CARDNIAL 33TBH ($45-$50K) AND THE OUTBACK SYDNEY EDITION31FQBHS ($28-$36K). I UNDERSTAND LESS WIEGHT THE BETTER,BUT WOULD IT BE FOOLISH TO GET A HIGH PROFILE WHEN IM GOING TO USE IT FOR MOSTLY WEEKEND GET AWAYS?

I have a high profile (12' 6" ) and the only advantage I see is that it has more storage underneath. If I were doing it over I would get one not so tall. As long as you can stand up in the front bedroom to make the bed then it is tall enough. I had a hard time finding a storage facility tall enough to accomodate the trailer. I like the New Vision design, made by KZ i believe. bg

Middie for me

I have a mid..... but I'm only 5'10" tall. It works out great for my family. I have 2 friends with taller, longer, and heavier units, and they both have said that they are too tall, but they do like the extra storage the height provides. All 3 of us use our fivers extensively during the warm months. Bruce

Ive got an 08 Silverback (33' long) rear bunkhouse which is a high profile.

Its got tuns of storage(more than we need) But it seems so much bigger inside with the high profile. It is a lot of surface area to pull through the wind. Ive not had a problem with the height as far as obstacles but have brushed a few low branches on some residential streets.

If you dont need the storage space id say a mid profile would be acceptable, but the deciding factor would be which floorplan fits your needs the best. If the high profile's floor plan fits your needs dont sacraifce just to go with the low profile.

My first 5er was a 05 Wildcat 31 rear bunk and was a mid profile. I dont notice any difference towing the bigger one, just when im parked and living in it, its more spacious.

We have an 07 Silverback, 33 ft high profile and really like the interior room. Especially like being able to stand upright(6'-3") in the bedroom!

My 5er is 11'4" and sticks well above my cab. the higher it is the more the drag, the more effect by both headwinds and cross winds have upon it. the more storage you have the more items you will find you can't live without to put in them. both have agreat effect on miliage Bottom line you have to buy the one that makes the wife happy. lol robert

thanks for all the resonses!hey 231jason s your trailer sounds like the one im looking at (34L4QB) right?if so how much for yours new?or should i ask what did you pay?there seems to alot of money moved right when you start to talk. c-ya----LEE

We ordered ours in Oct-Nov of 06... . picked it up in Mar 07. It was a replacement for my 05 (crashed/flipped in an AZ monsoon)through our insurance so we ordered it at Dealer cost (Dusty's Camper World in FL) then had it sent to Cal from the factory. Our Ins has full replacement coverage, pretty good deal.

We did alot of upgrades to it with dual pane windows and a long list of other stuff. I think the sticker was around 48-49K but we only had to pay 33-34+fees.
