dealers, scabs, fire extinguisher
... I know that sooner or later I'll need to take it to a dealer for some sort of warranty work.

Well now, that's not the attitude to start out with.

Hang around here and you'll probably find better ways to fix a truck than taking it to ANY dealer.
Personally, I've only had dealer work done twice. Reflash on the 24v for intermittant stumble, done at Winchester I think--somewhere down that way. I took the TSB in and they did it quick--but charged for it. I didn't argue. It probably would have taken three days for them to do "warranty" paperwork.
I had the throttle cable recall done in Lebanon. Total muck up, but I had to go there to get the free cable. Had to stop on the way home to readjust. Then later took it all down and re-routed it properly.
I really think that dealership service is a roll of the dice. It depends a lot on the mood of the SM that day and which tech actually does the work.
That said. I'd probably try Sparta if I ever qualified for warranty work again. (that's not likely!)
Meacham is having warranty issues right now. Some sort of driveline vibration/resonance with his 6. 7l. Pretty sure he's dealing with Lebanon AP.
HEY SCABBY! get unSCABBED soon. Sorry to hear it, and glad you're okay otherwise. I helped pull a lady out of a burning car this morning. She broke up her feet a bit... had a migraine, deer in road, slapped some boulders and wound up with car on side. We got her out before the car got real hot.
Going to buy a fire extinguisher today. I could have put it out at first---and we might not have been able to get her out...
