Any Ram guys in SE Florida?

Good Dodge Mechanic in N. Alabama?

Hey Joe,

I gotta come see ya. I put new wheels on the truck, and I've got that "Feger Bounce" (you know what I'm talking about) at about 55 mph. The tires were recently trued and balanced (twice), but it still is bouncin. I had to grind the brake caliper housing down on the edges to get the wheels to fit (eek!), I think it may have thrown a weight before I ground them for enough clearance. Do you do sticky weights?

Yeah, 16 degrees and fill his tires up real good. :p

Keeping the boost under 30# does wonders for my mileage. :-laf

Some trucks are just inherently better on fuel than others. The rest is driver.

Y'all are all welcome any time you want to come by... It is kind of a photogenic place to take a pic. :)

Believe it or not, the dang truck still fits in the garage!!

Scottsville KY Pull Update

Wednesday Night July 13th, Scottsville Fair Grounds

7PM two (truck) classes that will be pulling FIRST!

6200 & under GAS trucks

6200 & over STREET DIESEL

Only real rule is no under bed pulling hitches, must be reese style hitch.

I'm gonna go watch... ... I really wanna hook..... we'll see... . I'll have the camera if I do! Oo. :D :-laf

Hey y'all, I just got hooked up with a guy from XM. He gave me the info on their frinds and family site. If you want any XM gear, the discount is pretty substantial. For example, the new myfi that sells for $250 can be had for $160. Regular plug-n-play units start at $19 through this plan. If anyone is interested, lemme know, I'll send you the info. Catch is that you have to pre-pay the first 3 months, and keep it activated for at least 6 months.

Allright you DSS boys. Wander sucks! The only detectible play I can see is in the bottom of the steering box, like the bearing is bad. I am gonna try to tighten it up. If this doesn't FIX it should I try DSS or just get PSC steering box? Seems to me that this is what the DSS fixes. The bottom bearing sloppiness in the gear box and stiffens the frame too, obviously.

What ya'll think? DSS or just spend the money on PSC?

Good luck, and report your conclusions. :p

The steering has gone to crap on my green one too. It was always "4x4 truck crappy", but now it's all over the place--the rain don't help none--as the GAPster has noticed.

DW is ever-threatening too. MOF last time I got DW, it straightened the wheel back up. Yep--wheel gone crooked from previous DW, the straight after last one--must jump a gear in the box. Unless yall got a better splanation.

Back is kaput. :( Chiro'd it this morning. Been down since Sunday. Treating with rum and ibuprofen just now. :) Too funked up to crawl around under my greasy truck.

Is your track bar in good shape? No discernable play there?

I don't have enough information to give you an informed opinion on the DSS vs. PSC. I know the KORE guys are real big on the PSC. Might give Greg Boardman at Desert Racing Concepts a call.

Well, the DSS says it fixes play/wander in the steering, but Jay and I will testify that it doesn't. ;) I think the DSS would be most effective on a new truck acting as a brace for the steering box so it would not develop these problems later. But as far as I'm concerned, it did absolutely nothing for what I consider my steering problems. There was truly no noticeable difference. The truck still wanders just as it did before.

I'm no engineer, but after I thought through the design and actually realized what it was attached to on the truck and bracing, I really couldn't figure out any way that it could correct any pre-existing problems.

After hearing what Jay had to say about the PSC box and the new steering shaft on his truck, it got me thinking that I may go that route once some extra cash gets freed up.

ANDY - I'll ask this again - you must have missed it the first time I asked - what truck do you have for sale in the classifieds?

I figured it wasn't that easy, I'll just get a PSC then. Ol lady will love that. I'd love for it to steer good though :) Make me feel better Jay!

The truck Andy is potentially selling is his 03, the one pictured above. He's wife wants some new wheels, and he's talking about a 2nd gen.

Dang that's a shocker - I thought Andy was stuck on that one - sure is a pretty truck. You guys get me more afraid of marriage every day... :-laf

Hey Andy - I'd make a link in your signature to the classified ad so it would be easier to get to. ;)

What are you looking for Andy 2nd gen wise? 98. 5 - 02? Or are you wanting a 12 valve? I assume you still want a 3/4 ton, right? Mileage? Color? I come across them fairly often so let me know and I'll be on the lookout for something. Sure would be nice to find the ever-elusive 98 12V quad cab in something that was decent! :D

Gap, you are welcome to drive my truck on Saturday and see what you think of it. The DSS alone, IMO, does not do a thing. I agree with Hans, if you installed a DSS on a new truck, it would help prolong the life of the steering box. The steering box is one heavy part and the DSS does do a good job of supporting it. I do not regret buying the DSS as I feel it will help take care of the PSC box.

Jay
