Any Ram guys in SE Florida?

Good Dodge Mechanic in N. Alabama?

Anthony how are ya coming? Everything work ok? Let me know.

Pump is installed. All going ok up to today. The pump is alot more agressive than what I expected. Drivabelity not as smooth as stock pump. Still trying to get use to it.

Today truck started cutting out and shutdown again. No engine lights on codes stored. Unhooked Edge and drove for another 45 minutes and all ran ok.

I have sent Edge an e-mail today. Waiting on responce.

Any one else have any advice as to what is going on. If so send it this way.

Anthony

Andy,

When we went out for lunch today, it acted up for the first time. When I got home I took the cover off and the lights were moving left to right. I found a loose ground connection at the battery. I fix the ground and went for another drive. This is when it actually shutdown. I did not recheck for codes on the juice after returning.

I installed an AFE 4" exhaust yesterday. Thanks to Joe for hooking me up. Of all the mods I have done, this one was the biggest pain. Mostly due to not having the correct tool for cutting exhaust pipe.

Sure is loud with that muffler missing.

How was your vacation? hope you had a good time.

Anthony

Chris,

Are there different versions of the HRVP44? Which did I get? I looked on the box, but it did not say.

Some of the post are mentioing I and II.

Just wondering.

Anthony

Check your APPS voltage, and check the APPS ground. Not too sure that it would trigger a shutdown, but it could cause a stumble.

The fact that the truck operates properly without the Edge hooked up certainly points to the Edge... however, the fact that it's not throwing any diags makes me kinda think that maybe the edge box may be causing some other problem.

Try troubleshooting the APPS first... if that doesn't work, how about we trade Edge boxes for a couple days. See what happens to your truck and mine. Pretty easy way to either blame or exhonorate the edge box.

Hey Anthony, Just thought id put in my 2 cents, my friend Kerry just installed a new Hrvp on his truck, but his is a extra 45 hp, but Geoff at ETR also had like a 100hp VP version but he said it was prone to rough idle, stumble under certain loads. I believe both versions that he sells are from Industrial Injection, he just said he usually more of the lower hp version.

II only has 1 part # for any HRVP 44, its 80-100 hp, now this pump does add timing, not only pressure , it has to there is no way to add fuel without adding some timing, not alot but some, now is the Edge model you have adding timing, if so the to together could be adding to much. Can you adjust the Edge timing, if it adds timing? Brady at II said the trucks they have had problems with were automatics, not sticks, not saying it still couldn't have a idling problem like the auto's.

he also said that some have a lopey idle from time to time and the difference in this is the ECM programming, kinda sounds like a big cammed motor, he also told me you could take a smarty and flash your computer to stop this if this is happening. There pump adds like 3 deg total timing, check all your scotch locks and connections on your Edge box, these 2 generally run very well together. And maybe the guy talking about version 1 and 2 was talking about and H. O pump vers. a S. O. pump, maybe thats what he was talking about, I will be out of town until the weekend, will post any replys then, see ya'll.

Timing could be an issue, but I was having this problem before the pump replacement. The main reason I replaced the pump was hard start when hot. I don't think I caught the last lift pump failure in time. 204,500 mile on original VP44 is pretty good considering others have failed much sooner.

Keep the wheels turning, I'm sure together we can figure this out.

Thanks,

Anthony

agreed. Too much timing may cause stumble, but it wouldn't cause the motor to die at random times.

BTW... anybody got a squirrel cage off a blower motor??? I somehow managed to break mine. :(

Well, I plum forgot about Mark's meeting. First one I've missed... my tires sure appreciate it. :-laf

Gots good rubber on the 24v now. Detail and sell.

Need to trade a 01 drag comp for a 00 EZ and some boot.

Put a good 1000ohm resister in circuit of transmission for green truck--same, no overdrive.

Mooretown on the 11th. I'll be there... hell, I might pull--if'n I get equipped.

Anybody got an ECM off an 01? Anthony and I swapped boxes, and neither of us have had any issues (that I know of)... I'm starting to understand that the only thing that could cause this behavior besides the VP is most likely the ECM. Anybody got one he can test on his truck. He hasn't asked yet... I'm speaking for him here. Seems I'm good at that lately

AndyMan,

Nope, I ain't got a box for your 01, just wondering what kept you up posting at midnight! You working 2nd shift or something?

Hey Mid-TN, everybody is invited to our Dyno on 9/22, I have it posted on S. E. local chapters, I know it's a bit of a drive, make it a convoy, come on down, show these SC guys what #2 is really used for.

PS I have our new solid flywheel G56 Variable Torque Clutch prototypes in front of me right now. We installed a prototype in our G56, it was slick.

just wondering what kept you up posting at midnight!

I'm on-call for work a couple weeks a month... tough to get sleep sometimes. I've slept in some weird places over the years. On my desk, under my desk, on stacks of servers, under a raised floor, etc...

Hospitals never sleep.

Andy,

Their is a day and night difference between the two boxes. I cant explain why, but it runs alot smoother. I may have a ECM at home. Will look this afternoon if I can remember.

Anthony

yeah, see if you can find it. I talked another dude last night in a "chatroom"... he suggested getting your hands on a smarty and flashing the ECM. You know... load a smarty tune, and then unload it. That will leave the latest ECM version on your truck. Worth a shot I reckon.
