might get bombed

Well guys I attended the Sandia Showdown last Saturday and man their was some really nice trucks there. I listened to the BD Performance people and I think I might get bombed. This is what I am thinking, 16cm2 turbo 3. 5 inch exhaust, turnup the pump and set the timing for a start. This is on my 91 1/2 with all stock parts now. I would like to hear from you guys that have already taken the plunge. Is it worth it and have you had problems. Mileage better, worse. Thanks for your input.

Hi Jerry. Nothin but good news here. My 92 D250 gained 2-3+ MPG when I did simular mods. If you have a 5 Spd. you'll like the way it picks up that 3rd gear lag. I only went to an 18cm housing to save a few bucks and it really helped. Havent turned up the pump yet cause I feel bigger injectors is the way to get more fuel to the engine. I'm convinced it will help preserve the life of the pump$IMHO. Good luck. By the way ,check the MPG post and compare your stats to others. If yours are as good as the others with simular mods, I wouldn't waste the $ on setting the timing. It's probably OK.

Thanks for the feedback. I went and talked to our local BD Performance shop this morning. They advised against changing out the turbo but said the same as you, that you will get more by changing injectors and exhaust. So I am going to bite the bullet and ordered injectors and exhaust. I am going to get the valves adjusted (they are due) and have the pump tweaked. For my model a 91 1/2 with intercooler and from what I read on these threads this is probably the most expensive upgrades right out of the barrel. I can always do the turbo later. It will take a couple weeks to get the parts as they called BD and they are a week out on shipments. I am scheduled for 4/14. Wish me luck and maybe I can win the lottery in the mean time.

Jerry, I'd consider some kind of Exhaust housing change. that 21cm housing really spools up slow. There are many places that have used 18cm housings laying around collecting dust since the advent of the 16cm housing and you can pick one up for a song. It's a relativly easy changeout and you will like the results and save some serious $$. Not quite as good as a 16cm housing ,I'm told, but much better than the 21cm,I know. It's a cheep upgrade and well worth it. Good Luck.
