Ya Im embarrassed Dave, But im really excited that we are getting snow today. When I came back from the barn from doing chores I could actually find my way back to the house following footprints. Its pretty cold here in the mid Teens not supposed to get much over the mid 20's so I HOPE that Winter is here to stay and not go back to rain.

Good luck with the winter atmosphere. The Daughter is east of you at Minot. The temp showed 10 degrees this morning ( Brrrrrrrrrr ), I think my body would just shut down after living here for the last 37 years. The daughter isn't saying much being born and raised in Az. Maybe she is frozen solid :-laf

Dave

Naw, she's just awestruck by the feeling of that cold air gaining entry through every gap and crevice of the house.

You did warn her about the tongue vs. cold metal thing that we discussed, right???

I told her that story a number of times. If she was listening she will not make that mistake. On the other hand as kids go it went in one ear and out the other as parents are not very smart . How is the weather in Maine ?. 82 here right now, 56 when I went to work at 5am.

Mild for November. 35-50 during the day depending on the wind and low 20's at night. Next week it will drop down according to the weather. We need some cold nights to freeze the ground.

It seems counter intuitive to wish for frozen ground but it makes the winter much more tolerable if the snow falls on frozen tundra. Not stuck all the time that way. Snowblower picks up fewer rocks, shovel glides along rather than snubbing in the goo. Lakes freeze properly so you can go out on them without fear.

Mike.

That kind of cold is a little early even for your area, right??

Of course the wind chill is adding to the sensation as well.

Mike

Gail is outside playing with the OTHER CHILDERN!! :-laf

Yes!! its NOT Normal to be having these temps this early on, We love the changes, living in So Calif. we had Nice weather and then HOT but still nice weather, it was just a matter of which Bikini to wear :-laf

Here We have to be a little more inventive, im sure that Maine is much the same way. You cant hibernate in the house for the months of winter. Gail was kind of upset that this came on kind of suddenly, He wanted to open the well and make a skating rink for the party which would have turned into an ADULT MALE Hockey game, and the Children would have to wait until someone got hurt so badly that the teams were uneven, of course with the amount anesthetic that usually gets drank at such events it would have to be a limb dismemberment to cause the game to be halted :-laf

Last years Stanley Cup in our backyard got a little carried away and one man was knocked out from being hip-checked into a tree, the game continued because even thou the player was knocked out cold, he was still on the ice. That made it a power play is all

You are correct Penny, you have to get outside or winter will get the best of you.

We do sliding parties, have outdoor fires and cook red hot dogs on a stick. Also do so'mores but you gotta' hustle on the assembly when it is zero.....

Also mosey out to the son-in laws ice shack right out front of the house on the lake. Go "Drink-Fishing"......

We like these kind of so'mores

Reese’s S’More, making a s’more as usual, but replacing the Hershey's with 1 or 2 mini Reese’s…. it is wonderful!!

Spider dogs, Just cut the dogs at the ends and put on a stick over the fire, the ends curl up and look like spiders, our kids just dipped the ends in Mustard

Our Camp favorite is to take Oranges and put the store Bought Cinnamon Roll bites in the halved orange peels close them up wrap in tin-foil, just a bit over a fire or on a cookie sheet in the oven the Cinnamon Rolls pick up the orange flavor, the kids tend to eat the oranges when they are already out of the peels.

This Keeps them warm on the inside on cold days, Gail makes the best Hot Coco with big marshmallows he melts Hershey Bars and adds to milk and heats it. He's doing that now as they are all singing Children's songs around the campfire.

Those kids have it better than my grandkids, they only get instant hot chocolate with mini-marshmallows.

I'll try melting Hershey bars this winter and see if they notice.....I'll probably set the stove on fire.....:D
