Ok, I've had my new 2001. 5 truck for 2 days (appx 500 total miles on rig) and I got my first check engine light. Swell. Checking out some previous threads, I did the following:

1) Turned the ignition on and off 3 times and the following codes came up: P1693, then P done, then P0237, P0522 and P1488, and P done again.

2) I then disconnected the negative terminals for 10 min to reset everything; the logic being that if the prob was a big one the MIL light would return. I drove about 25mi. after resetting.

Immediately after restarting (after no juice for 10 min) the light was off, and has remained off.

Does anyone know what these codes mean? Should I worry?

This is my first Dodge after 20 years of Toyotas, and I'm feeling slightly nervous... ...

Thanks

Ron

P1693: A fault has been generated in the companion engine control module.

P0237: MAP sensor voltage input below the minimum acceptable voltage.

P0522: Oil pressure sending unit (sensor) voltage input below the minimum acceptable voltage.

P1488: Sensor supply voltage for ECM sensors is too low.

Hmmmmmm..... Back to the dealer! It would be a good idea just to make him aware of the trouble, even if it doesn't happen again for a while. Just makes a paper trail. Doesn't sound too serious. A loose connector, perhaps.

Error Codes

Thanks Tom. It looks as though I had a low voltage event in multiple systems at the same time (?). The truck runs great, I never felt anything strange. I'm going to just run with it.

Is there a resource for the code definitions somewhere on the net?

What did I do? I noticed that unpluging the COMP while the truck is on will set off the check engine light.

The pump wire is not hooked up if that makes any difference.

Where could I find a list of these for next time? Will unhooking the battery terminal clear these for when I take it to the dealer?

TIA,

I got the codes out of the '99 service manual. Haven't you ordered a service manual yet?  The codes *may* be on Dave Fritz's site: <http://www.dodgeram.org>, but I haven't looked there.

You're welcome, Ron. You've made a wise choice. Maybe we'll meet at the NW Bombers monthly (?) meeting next year and compare notes. I'm occasionally in the North Seattle/Mt Vernon area.

TxDieselKid, I don't have my manual handy right now, but will respond later if someone doesn't get to it first!

So should I be worried...?

So should I be worried about the dealer finding any of these codes? Are any of them faulty parts that I should take it in for?

As for a service manual... where's a good place to get one. If it's that one site, they don't have one for the 2001, so no go. I don't know if a 2000 is close enough or not. Please help with this.

Bob! Have mercy on the newbies, for they have not yet learned the ways of the TDR! I nearly inhaled my candy when I read your interpretation of the 1693 error code. Good one! :D :D :D

Ron, I hope your heart rate and stress level have returned to something approaching normal. Remember, knowledge is power and this site is the granddaddy of Cummins Turbo Diesel knowledge and experience (with all due respect to Dave Fritz). :)

TDK, I got the codes for Ron's truck outa my '99 manual, so they do tend to stay the same through different years. If you have a 2001 truck, I would probably hold out for a 2001 manual because it is likely to cover both the drum and disk rear brakes. Notwithstanding other suggestions, the dealers' service departments can give you the phone number to call to order service manuals. I purchased mine here in Canada, so it won't be the same phone number, eh? Do a search in the archives for "service manual" and see what you come up with!

Cheers, fellas!:D

manuals

tx dezul kid:

have to call to get the 2001 manuals. 1-800-890-4038. i just got mine. the big manual is now two volumes. it took a month to get the volume 2 book--"back ordered".
