The truck that drops off the oil here at the shop is a 24v not sure year he said they have over 400,000 miles on it and they beat the crap out of that truck you can se it

I have a 53.

Forgive the ignorance (I was a 3rd gen owner, until recently), but what is a 53 motor? My truck was built April 20th, 2000 and has 94,500 miles on it. I've spoken to both the original owner and the 2nd (last) owner, and no work has been done to it. Original everything.

53 is the block casting number and some have a tendancy to crack. You are in the build date for it, so check under the VP44 just above the oil pan for a number 53 cast into the block. If you do find 53 it doesn't mean your block IS going to crack, just that there is a possibility. I have 193k and no crack yet.

Just checked it, but I couldn't find a casting number on the block... could be because of the oil leaking around the pan (is this normal?) or because I just don't know what the hell a VP44 looks like (still finding my way around the 2nd gen motors). I did find a tag that said, "engine no. 56713694", but I don't know if that's of any help.

The VP44 is on the drivers side of the engine directly above the power steering pump, has the injector lines coming out the back of it.

I think the 53 block was made from 98. 5 thru 2001? There are tons of threads on the subject accessible by the search function.

The lift pump issue can be solved by several different products/methods. The one I would suggest is AirDog. With over 140,000 miles on my AirDog and zero issues I highly recommend it. The price was recently lowered on the AirDog also. PM for dealer contact.

Godspeed,
Trent

Negative. I have a 2001 HO and the block # is a 56 out of St Louis. All HOs came out of St Louis. 53 blocks came out of Mexico if the rumor is correct. I am pushing up against 190,000 now and still have my orginal VP-44. Never lost a LP, but I did replace it at about 30,000 with a FASS.

So it stands to reason then that the tag I read, "engine no. 56713694" would be a 56 motor, since the first two digits are 56? Just going out on a limb here.

That is my understanding, yes. It has been mentioned on another thread, which iludes me at this time, that the 53 block series ceased production on or around 1999. My truck is an early 2001 HO, one of the very first ones to be produced. I picked it on July 3rd of 2000 right after the 2001 models hit the street.

Mine did@ 114k and change...

182K 2VP's, 4LP's, track bar, 1 wheel bearing, Idler pulley, alternator, fan clutch. Had some repairs, but the truck does pull what ever I want and gets decent mpg! 420 to 460 per tank

170,000 replaced lift pump 2 times, VP44 two times. I am still on the factory shoes and pads (never leave home without your exhaust brake), and factory clutch.

First VP died of mechanical failure (95,770 miles on it), dealer reman died of electronic failure (49,699 miles on it). The VP I got I made sure that the computer had been replaced.
