Ok I keep reading about the improved milage with the 2013 over the 2012 and most of what I have been reading has been empty trucks with great milage, but I want to know what these trucks get when pulling a 12-13k fifth wheel or something similar. Eighty percent of my driving is pulling our coach and I get about 9. 5 mpg which stinks, but what can I expect to get with a 2013 and which gear ratio would be best?

Thanks in advance,

Don:confused:

I just bought a 13' model and my mileage equals that of my older 01' 2nd Gen. The lie-o-meter always reads between 11 and 13 pulling my 18k RV. But you want real world evidence????... ... I put $75 dollars of diesel in the truck and I drove for 7 hrs in mixed highway and some stoplights. I'm not going to do the math but that is about 10 or 11 mpg in real world driving!!! Diesel was $3. 89 where I filled. I absolutely cannot complain about the mileage these trucks get but about the only thing I CAN complain about is how long it takes to fill the fuel tank... . I HATE IT! The pump clicks off constantly and it takes forever to fill it!!

I have a Platinum Horse trailer that we use as a toy hauler, combined weight almost 26,000. Smaller frontal area thant the common RV 5th wheel. My 04 used to get 11-12mpg on the flat to small rolling hills at 68-70 mph. . my 2013 will equil this. In the mountain passes this will go down to 9mpg depending on the pass.

Thanks! I am just doing the math to see how long it will take to break even with the money it cost to make the trade.
Sounds like I will pick up between 1-3 miles per gallon while towing. Anyone else that has information ,please let me know.

I don't think you can ever justify the cost to trade on fuel savings while towing heavy. Empty mileage is a big improvement as is the fact that oil changes are cut in at least half and closer to 3 to 1.

If you try to figure out if the new truck will pay for itself in fuel savings you should stop right there, if you just want the latest and greatest then just do the upgrade. I would say that if you have a :"burr under your blanket" with your 2012 you had better trade for a 2013 or 2014, before you put too many more miles on your year old truck.
