Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Milage

When I got my truck I calculated 20 mpg on the trip home. That was with a #6 plate and a K&N drop-in. After I fiddled around with the pump, for fun, average was 18 mpg. After I went into the pump, I got 16 mpg average and 18 mpg driving real good. Now (with the current mods), when I drive however I want to, it can get down to around 13 mpg. Keep in mind, I make a lot of small trips, and not a lot of long trips. So that should be factored in as well. The majority of my driving is a mile away, lately. And a lot of playing around.

Gosh I feel really bad now since I got 20. 5 pulling a 32' gooseneck from Lacrosse, WI to Rapid City, SD going between 65-80 all the way on the interstate. Maybe it's time to get a 24 valve Josh??? I have gotten as good as 26. 7 just driving the truck around empty on longer trips. Chris

I keep track of my mileage with a GPS. The GPS and odometer miles are always way off of each other. My dad does the same thing with his 99. On his, the GPS, odometer and over head counsel are all way off of each other. If you could, try figuring your mileage with a GPS. I'd like to know if it's different for you too, cause the mileage you posted above seems way high to me. Mike

i called piers a few months back with the same question. i cant remember who i talked to, mark i think, but he mentioned that where i have the starwheel adjusted would affect milage more than the plate. i had it forward pretty far which gave me lots of smoke when taking off. i backed it off a little and got about 1mpg but it wasnt worth it. i would try that other plate and move the starwheel to control the smoke.

The best way to increase your fuel mileage is to do what my brother-in-law does, lie about it. He has a Furd V-10 gasser and get 17 mpg pulling a 28' 5er.
