Ok guys lets hear from all the experts. I think I might want to turn up the power a little but I don't want to fry the new stock clutch. Where do I start? What are my options?
As usual gauges are #1, minimum of EGT but boost is nice to have.
Start with a cam plate (TST). If you plan to do a clutch upgrade and do further mods in the future get a #10. I ran with the #10 and my stock clutch for a while before finally installing a new clutch. I never had any problems, if you have a new stocker it should hold fine for now but it's not recommended.
Since your clutch is new you probably won't be installing another one anytime soon in which case you would be safer with a #11 cam plate. I never had a #11 many are happy with it.
TST has some plate exchange deal (ie swap #11 for #10) but I'm not sure on the details.
Add a 3K GSK kit also, this will not necessarily let your motor rev higher but will give you good fuel delivery and power up to 3000RPM instead of dying off at around 2400-2500 RPM.
My #11 is slid full forward, timing bumped to 15. 7* and I just turned over 200k on the stock clutch. I transport trailers and have never had the clutch slip, even with the biggest ones. Dyno was 297 HP and 611 TQ.
I have equivelent to a #6 and a 3k gsk on a new stock strength clutch and not a problem in the world even while racing the rice burners. But get the KDP fixed. It's costing me $3000 right now to get it fixed.
See my sig for mods on my truck, I should be somewhere in the mid 300's and my stock clutch is still holding. The stock 5-speed clutches will hold more power than the stock 6-speed ones will.
I would consider my truck moderatly bombed. Got a #6, 3k GSK 15. 5 timing ,ATS manifold and straight piped. Everything else is stock. Tunned by Rammin On to 307 RWHP. Still have the stock clutch at 218k miles. Bombed for the last 50k miles or so. I like the combo. Runs good, tows good with out EGTs getting out of hand.
As I posted in that other rehashing thread, with the #11 and 3k gsk I can slip the clutch if I step on it upshifting into 4th or 5th. 112k on the stock clutch. If I get time and with R. ebel's expertise I'll be advancing the timing and hitting the rollers in April.
