One difference between Steve R and CAnderson's trucks is the altitude they live at.

When I bought mine stock with 117k miles it got just over 21. Compensating for speedo error it got just shy of 20 (19. 8 something). Then came the #5 plate (not much change), bigger tires (almost 2 mpg) and bigger injectors and better TC (almost another 2)

In the winter I get around 14 making "short" 20 minute drives to work. On a long trip I get upwards of 17 in the summer. This fall I will be going back to 215-85 tires to fix the milage and get back some free performance.

I did change the speedo gear when I switched tires so the milage is all within a couple %.

Extreme1, you've got a good point there. I suppose the air would be a little thinner at SLC than it is here. Even though it's a pretty good distance to the ocean, Iowa isn't very high above sea level.

Marcus,

Don't take this the wrong way. Are you sure you are doing your math right? I think another poster asked you about the size of your liters. Assuming your odometer is calibrated in miles, you need to be accurate when you convert liters to gallons.

If you have already checked this, I apologize for suggesting the obvious. :)

Thanks

Hi!

Thanks to all of you for your help!

I am really happy to be member of the TDR.

First thing I did this morning was to check the tire pressure, and yeahh the pressure level on all tires was down at 35 psi, I filled it up to 55 psi (front) and 45 (rear), cause the computers which i have to carry aren´t so heavy.

Second point maybe the tire dimension there are 285/75/16s mounted.

Now I´m running on winter diesel, i guess the switchover to summer fuel will be next month maybe also a factor, but my Volvo 740 also diesel powered, makes no difference in mileage between winter and summer fuel.

So let´s see if mileage increases a little bit.

Maybe interesting for you over 60% of all cars are diesel powered here in Austria due to the fact that diesel fuel is cheaper ( about 90c per gallon).

Many greetings and a nice weekend to all!

Marcus

:--) Wow, I wish our diesel was 90 cents a gallon less than gas!

I guess 90 cents less is still high considering what gas prices in Europe are:{ I think if more people, and politicians, could see the light we might be 60% diesel too. :D

OK, now Im questioning Marcus' math! :p I was in Yurrup a few years back... and after buying fuel at a Circle K-type place and finding it cheap... . converting liters to gallons and DM to dollars, the super-cheap diesel was $4. 15/gallon. Gasoline was more, of course. This was in Munich, summer 1997. It was the same in France as well... .

Mileage certainly can vary with terrain and right foot pressure!! Since the fuel guage on my '97 (5 speed 3:54 rears)"died" over a year ago, I reset the trip indicator everytime I fill up. I'v been averaging about 17-19 mph ( Had a low of about 11 on one trip through WV pulling a trailer) However, about a month ago I completed a 330 mile trip following a friend driving his 1963 Ford F750 on almost all interstate at 55 MPH. Got 22. 5, my best ever!

Hello BCFast!

The 90c are approximately 95 and 92 octane gas!

if you compare it 98 octane gas it´s even more!

1 liter 98oc. gas is sold today for 0,956 Euro cent

1 liter diesel fuel 0,619 Euro cent ( i needed today 115l of this stuff)

0,956-0,619=0,337

1gallon = 3,78liters

difference 1,27 Euro

actual rate 1EURO = 0,87 USD

equals difference between 98oc. gas and diesel about USD 1,10.

see you

Milage

I have a '96 std. cab 4x4 auto, bought new in November of '95. I check the milage every tank. To work is 12 miles one way. 1/2 of this is 35 mph with stop lights and the other 1/2 is I-5. I get 15- 15. 5 mpg on every tank in this type of driving.

Best milage was on a trip back from Reno in '97. I got 20 mpg. I was trying to see what kind of milage I could get by keeping the rpm's in the sweet zone, under 1,700 rpm with a 3:54 rear end.

Since then all long trips have been with a TT or 5th wheel and the milage is 12 mpg. I know some get better, this is just what I have seen on my truck for the 6 years I have had it. Oo. Oo. Oo.

Ok... ... . This guy can use a calculator!! I'll buy that. lol. :D

My personal best is 23. 8 mpg going to Heber and back. I was trying to be extremely nice and keep it at or below 65 mph. I was happy that night!

It´s really funny to drive around here with the ram, knowing that you are running one of maybe hundred rams in Austria. The ram is an absolute eyecatcher. Everybody likes the ram. Standing in traffic jam people just jumping out of their cars asking me what car is that, where can I get this,...

So everything is perfect except the mileage! I thought I can get maybe 18 to 20, but now I get only 15mpg (50/50 city/highway) without load, without towing, no kickdowns.

Is that normal?

Will mileage increase with a tonno cover?

I`am driving with slow/moderate acceleration, driving speeds on highways are about 65mph, rpms are always between 1000 and 2000.

Should i change my driving style shorter an faster accelerations?

Thanks for any hints!

Many greetings from Austria.

Marcus

Thats better than me I only get 12. 5 with a light foot city driving:{
