Need help with some upgrade questions? I just sold my 94 3500 that was getting on an average of 18mpg and 13-15mpg with a trailer behind it.

I bought a 2004 3500 4x4 with approximately 30,000 miles on it and the mileage is the worst I have ever seen. I don't think I have gotten above 10. 4 mpg, I drive alot and this is killing me I even tried reprogramming with the bullydog "lil pup" and that did not help. The dealer only say's "nothing is showing in the computer" My question is since it seems the dealer is not going to help, what upgrade would help the most with mileage, would the best upgrade be an air system???? any advice would help, thanks

Check the lift pump. I had the same problem. I went from 16 mpg to 22 the day I got my truck back from having the lift pump updated.

yea bud, it deffinatly a fuel issue, i would say LP or injectors, they are most common to go. if you want i could answer most of your questions over the phone.

Rudity23, how can I check the lift pump and/or know if it needs to be updated??? Thanks for your help.

you need to go to to the dealer and have them run some LP test's and other fuel system checks, on your 04' it has a LP on the filter block and they go anywhere from 60-70k on average though i have seen them fail way before and way after, a fuel pressure guage is the best way to see, but if you going to mod it it's better to buy a fass lift pump with filters and be done with it.

I could'nt agree more. I average 19+ no matter how i drive it. And without the worry of a failed LP.
