I have about 1400 miles on mine, but I have not towed yet (in about a week and a half, I may know more about that then), but the highest I've ever seen on the overhead was 15. 3 (second tank of fuel). Since I put the Snug Top shell, the highest I've seen is 14. 9. When I'm on my 23 mile freeway commute, I'm feeling great when I see a 14. 4. And I baby the throttle!

Interesting, though, is that I only see the higher numbers on or near a full tank of fuel. As the tank is depleted, the ability to see those "higher" numbers diminishes. Resetting the overhead sometimes helps.

Speaking of, we know the overhead is questionably accurate, but it has a peculiar memory. If I hit reset while on a long coasting section, it always comes back on at 0. 1 mpg higher than when I reset it. It's the same if I shift it into neutral. Apparently, the Dodge doesn't get better mileage while coasting. Of course, I don't believe that. At least the display on Honda vehicles represents true (or at least realistic) mileage when coasting.

Additionally, the "average" does not seem to be based on since the last "reset," but instead it's an average of the last two miles or three minutes - something short like that. Despite it's memory during a reset, the average memory seems to have Alzheimer’s disease - it forgets every thing that happened miles or more than a few minutes before. An example, I can get 14. 4 mpg for 50 miles, but once I pin it for a short distance (10 seconds) it'll drop down into the 13s quickly. But that doesn't mean the overall average for that drive was in the 13s, just the past couple minutes/miles (I don't know if it's distance or mileage based).

I filled up last Sunday, still have just over 1/8th tank left. Gone almost 400 somethin' miles, DTE says like 100 or so left and I should be able to go 50 or so beyond DTE.

So by Tuesday or Wednesday I should have a perfectly accurate hand calculated mpg.

I'm anxiously awaiting. Overhead hovers around 15. 7 to 16. 3 throughout this tank so far.

My exgirlfriend drove a Tacoma - it was a cute little truck. Oh, and one of the current gals I'm dating has a Tacoma, too. I like women who drive trucks - but it's ok if they drive those little compacts as well. ;)

I had a '95. 5 Tacoma and it was the best truck. It was an automatic 4 cyl. and I put some 33x12. 50's on 10" rims on that sucker and drove it hard, got it buried in a pond up to the doors for 17 hours it sat there, winched it out, cranked it up, drove it home.

I was so tempted to buy an '05 Tacoma. I went and test drove one and a few things turned me off:

#1 The new 4. 0L has fairly good power, but it sounds like Toyota had to peg it out to get it there. I'm sure it will be a great reliable engine, but it just sounds like it's struggling which is probably because Toyota is squeezing every bit of power out of a V6 that they can.

#2 Not quite as spacious inside as I thought it was going to be. Didn't feel any bigger than the '04 Tacomas.

#3 Seats felt like they were too high above the console.

#4 It's a gas engine that requires premium stock. My modded V8 Hemi took premium and that was acceptable. A stock V6, is not.

The styling though is outstanding, I don't think they could have done much better. It drove excellent with the exception of the pegged out engine. So... I came close to buying it, but no cigar.

I love Tacomas and was really hoping to get into one this time around, but the engine just didn't do it for me.

#1 You are literally the first person I have heard knock the 4. 0l, seriously. I haven't driven one, but everyone on the Tacoma forums raves about it, especially when compared to the 3. slow or 3. 4l.

#2 I thought the same thing, until I sat back in my truck. It made mine feel tiny. The extra 4" does make a big difference. The rear seat, even though it looks big, still has less leg room than a QC Ram. And if feels like it.

#3 I didn't notice the seats being that way, but a lot of people complain about the last Tacomas having seats too low to the ground. Maybe they over compensated in the new one.

#4 It will run fine on 87, it has knock sensors. The people that have run it that way say they can't feel any performance loss.

I'm torn b/w a dc "long" bed Taco, and a QC or MC Ram. The fact that I can buy a brand new dirt bike, a lift, and wheels and tires, for the price difference makes the Taco quite appealing...

No you just tell the truth. My milage is about the same as yours.

Well I just came to CTD land from Powerstroke land one reason was all the great MPG these CTD quote get well i guess i bought the worse one out there Cause my 041/2 3500 DRW QC with 3:73 gears is only netting 11. 3 (S*cks) :( I like the quite and the truck is nice But IM not happy with the Bad MPG HELP.

i am pretty sure a lot of these mileage claims are a lot like a fishermans or hunters story if no one was there to see it who cares if it is exaterated a little bit. I came over froma powerstroke as well which was getting between 13. 5 and 14. 5. First tank in my truck got me 16. 3. Now that winter blend diesel is here i have been as low as 13. 5. BTW i have 6000 miles on my truck now :)

It will get better at around 15,000 miles. I was bummed with the mileage when I first bought my new truck. Now I get about 14 around town and about 19 or better on the freeway depending on how hard I press on the skinny pedal :D . Some people say the engine is'nt broken in until 60. 000. I've got 16,000 on mine and the mileage is still improving. Hope this helps.
