Hi JD
Yes I Have 295/75/16 (33. 4" tall) BFG AT's on the truck now. And they are Ok. I have 12k on them and they are half gone. The Goodyear ATS in 305/75/16 (32. 7" tall)I had before the BFG's had 42k and they were almost to the wear bars. But I had a hell of a time getting 4 round ones! My Next set of rubber will be 285/75/16, (33. 1" tall) Bridgestone MT's. The problem with any AT tire is they pick up those little rocks (from chip seal road work)on the road and throw them at the rocker panels blasting the paint off the truck. This even happen to me with the stock wheels and tires on the truck.

I have over 20k mi. on my BFG 285/75R16 Radial All-Terrain T/As (pre KO) and really like them. Through all the years and trucks I've owned, I've purchased BFG tires almost exclusively although, this is my first set of All-Terrains. I've always purchased their Mud-Terrains which work extremely well. Tread life of the All-Terrains is vastly superior to the Mud-Terrains. My next set of skins will also be another set of 285 All-Terrains (when ever that will be). #ad

I ran a set of 285-75R-16 BFG Mud-Terrains on my '97 and got 46,280 miles on them which was about 75% highway driving. BFG has excellent tires but as with all brands, the key to getting the most miles is rotating every 5000-6000 miles. The guy at Discount Tire told me you can get 60,000 out of a set of BFG all-terrains with proper rotation.

I have around 9K on a set of BFG A/Ts 295/75/16 on 16X8 wheels. I like them alot so far and they were a big improvement over to undersized stock tires when it comes to overall ride. They are almost as quite as the stock tires, off road is much better, on road handling about the same. I can't tell if you were asking about your mpg or tire lifetime. As for mpg, highway milage has improved a bit mainly because the larger tires put my rpm in the 1700-2000 range at 65-70 mph, where it was in the 1900-2200 rpm range with the smaller tires. In town milage is a bit lower, maybe because I spend more time in 3rd and 4th gear than with the smaller tires, I use to be able to cruse in 5th at 45 mph on some of the level main roads around town, can't do that anymore with the larger tires. I think you have a bit more drag and rolling resistence, my general impression is that the effect in overall milage is minimal, but you get a much smoother and enjoyable ride.

If I ever do get my truck, the first thing I want to do is upsize the tires (using stock SLT rims). A budy of mine with a 1500 wants my stock tires to upgrade his truck. I am thinking of either the BFG 285/75-16s or the 295/75-16s. Do either of these require shimming up the front springs for clearance? Will they fit within the wheel wells without fender flares? Will they fit with the Mopar mudflaps? If you installed front end "leveling shims" did you also replace the shocks, or can you use the stock shocks? Can you get shims less than 2" thick anywhere?

I want to get the biggest tires possible without doing any real suspension or body lift to the truck (or rubbing tires), but think a front end lift of about 1. 5" would be OK as the back seems to be about 2" higher than the front from the factory. What ya think?

I've got a set of BFG 285/75/16's with about 50k miles on them so far. I will probably get new ones before the snow files again. They fit fine on the stock rims with no rubbing or modifications. They even fit in the spare tire area (barely) You might even be able to get 295's in there.

Ski Bum, some Rams can run the 295s without tire interference with the sheet metal, others can't. I prefer the 285s over the 295s for several reasons:
1) a 285 spare can fit in the OE spare tire location between the frame rails (a 295 CAN'T)
2) the 285 will out handle and corner a 295 (shorter sidewall)
3) often times there isn't enough tire clearance with the 295s in off-road driving situations
4) better deals can be had on 285s
and finally, 5) I feel the threshold tire size with an auto. equipped 24v Ram with the 3. 54:1 axle ratio is the 285. I feel the 295s seem to make the power soggy enough to warrant the 4. 10s. -DISCLAIMER- These are my opinions ONLY. I have driven both sizes and these are my observations and opinions. I will however add, I like the looks of the 295s better, and with the manual transmission, would probably go with the 295s. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it! #ad

I had a set of A/T with 60,000 miles on them. Best set of tires I ever had. I put a set of Wild Country on last time to save a few $ what a mistake. Out of round I fought the dealer for several month to get the out of round tires replaced. I delt with costomer service at Wild Country and they gave me the run around. Needless to say BFG's will be going on soon.

The BFG AT 285's are great! Except they will destroy the paint on your rocker panels.

Do yourself a favor and add mudflaps at the same time. I have the flat Mopar flaps, and they seem to work well. You'll kick yourself later if you don't put the mudflaps on before or at the same time. I'm still kicking!
